With just the resonator delete I can hear my car coming in the hood 4 blocks away when the wife picks the kid up from school. She loves to drive it for 9th grade pickup lol. Daughter likes the attention too.

I'm not saying the axkebacks alone are anywhere near as loud on cold starts as they would be with an X-pipe, but they are noticeably louder than stock and it makes me hesitant to go to another level of loud with the resonator delete.
Ohhh okay got you, sorry I took that a little out of context. Yeah that can be intimidating because you don't know how many levels that X pipe is gonna take it up. I guess there might be only one way for us to find out lol.

Shit man with just the res delete 4 blocks... I am really nervous now lol.
Nice! I'm glad the family likes it and enjoys it. I'm actually a high school teacher so I'm sure the students will love hearing it in the parking lot šŸ˜‚

If things are quiet these cars really carry. One thing I love about the 5.0.

You're right, I can always hear when one is driving by and tell right away. I am very thankful I get to actually own one here very soon. Especially right before the body style change too. Ford Performance says my ETA to the dealer should be between 26th and September 2nd. Getting really close!

It definitely sounds great. I have seen the age old debate of X vs H and definitely like the sound of an X better. Some rasp to me is better than the "old school" sound but to each their own.
Have you ever had any complaints on your set up?
Nope. My neighbors don't mind either. You'll enjoy your setup

Hell yeah, thank you for the replies man I appreciate it. I'll throw them on and see what happens. Worst comes to worst I'll just stick with axlebacks if complaints come in. Excited to hear that roar.

Its gonna be loud.

I had the Roush ABs with stock midpipe and it was fun loud, but I was pretty paranoid about doing anything to get it any louder than that. It caused me to delay getting headers, cause those would increase the noise.

When I originally installed the ABs, I actually had the shop weld back in my stock midpipe resonator and the noise was pretty good in that configuration. Just took those off for a quieter exhaust cause I was breaking noise limits at some venues with just the ABs.

So Roush AB with no midpipe resonator? Too loud for me. I've heard that setup on other cars and consensus in my group of car people is that its excessive.

Oh man, I couldn't even imagine headers... That I'd never do. That must be ear splitting loud so I don't blame you for wanting to skip that lol.
What did you have before you told them to put the stock one back on? That's pretty wild the whole group finds it excessive too lol.
Good to know, I know loudness is subjective so I'm glad to hear everyone's opinion.

  • I had stock mufflers with a really cheap H pipe (good volume, ok tone when warmed up. Terrible raspy tone with cold - sounded like a box of rocks)
  • Then stock resonator midpipe with Roush AB (I knew they were going to be too loud with a H pipe, and the were fun loud with lots of compliments, and only occasional complaints on volume)
  • Now stock resonator midpipe with Corsa Touring AB. After a few years of the Roush AB, the daily volume was ok, but on the loud side, and I did need to quiet the system down to not break sound regs at some sites I run the car. Time for a change. Corsa was too quiet at first, now I like it.

Thank you for the reply! Have the neighbors ever said anything to you before? Unfortunately I don't have the option of a garage currently but I could back my car up a bit before starting to not be so close to their house. I hear you man I LOVE the way it sounds from what I've heard on youtube. Totally can deal with any type of driving too, just worried about that damn cold start. I hate having neighbors lol.
Any of you guys have a db reader by chance to measure what a cold start comes up as?
So far no one has said anything negative to me. 2 different neighbors have told me it sounds good though.

I meet up with a lot of other S550 owners. More people are louder than my Roush AB than quieter. People's idea of what's loud varies a lot. There's a guy with just a resonator delete that thinks mine is too loud for him. Guys with Borla Atak, MBRP Race, or Corsa Extreme catbacks, etc. think my setup is pretty tame and ask why I don't get an X-pipe. And then we have the ones with headers combined with those louder catbacks. Ear splitting loud. They know it but they like it that way, lol.

You’re right man sound is completely subjective. That last bit with the headers made me laugh šŸ˜‚ I really am just gonna have to hear it for myself. I’ll have to keep my eyes out for some 5.0s and ask what they have done in the mean time while I wait for mine. God I hope Ford sticks to their ETA lol
