Got my roush AB put on first 1.5 years ago. Put on the h-pipe today and finally the lower rpms are loud enough. And i very much like the tone as well. Not too raspy, kinda deep actually. From 0-3000/4000 rpm its good. Then suddenly around 4000+ its freakn wake the dead loud and SUPER raspy. Like a ripping noise. I don't mind the loudness actually, and I'm probably gonna keep this for at least a year since I just got it, but the tone is a little TOO obnoxious for me. Is there a way with my current setup to mitigate that high rpm rasp?

Or what is another exhaust setup that can be almost as loud without that super raspy/ripping noise.

had the same set up with an xpipe instead of the h but i welded in some bottle resonators from vibrant that i got at summit racing. it cuts back the volume just a little bit but does wonders for the tone. so i just welded them to the back of the xpipe and done.

At higher rpm the H-pipe basically becomes a straight pipe (very little mixing), which is your ripping sound. An X will have much less of that, much smoother, but will still be raspy. X with some bullet resonators behind it would be good I think.

I don't understand why don't get that these engines have some rasp to them. More so at higher RPMs. It's pretty much any Dual cam V8. Audi 4.2, BMW 5.0, Jag 3.9, Ford 5.0

Like it was already stated, an X-pipe will help smooth it out up top, but you have ROUSH A/Bs They're about as raspy as it gets.

I could've sworn people said h-pipe = deeper and x-pipe = raspier. Will bullet resonators work with the h pipe?

Will x pipe + bullet resonators be raspy at low rpm or better too?

I too welded in a couple vibrant resonators and the rasp on my setup is long gone. I hated the way my exhaust sounded without them and was a tad skeptical that they would work but now I cant tell enough people about it!

The roush are straight through mufflers and create little back pressure, which doesn't allow the h-pipe to be effective at high RPM.

Also the H sounds very coarse to me at lower rpm. To each their own.

Hmm that's a new word I haven't heard when describing exhaust sound. Could you elaborate on what coarse means in this context?

Also why is every exhaust setup I find either raspy or deep. Is there no middle ground?

X's don't have to sound raspy at all it seems alot of it is down to how big the cross over point is. I made an X with a very long (about 9 inch) cut and its not raspy at all if anything it sounds very poppy and bangy especially coming off the throttle.
