I’ve never installed a ceramic coating before and just did so on a new set of 6grs. I thought taping off a section for the weights would be fine, but once I brought them to the shop the weights were placed in a different spot.

Any chance the adhesion of the weights won’t hold? I was told they should be fine but could tape over the weights for extra comfort if I was worried.

Don’t roast me 😓 just learning

They could come off, but you probably will be fine. It will certainly make it harder for the shop mounting the tires.

I know its easier to coat the wheels before the tires are mounted, but its best to get the tires mounted and balanced and then have the wheels ceramic coated just to avoid the possibility of the wheel waits coming off.

here s what it depends on; there are cheaper weights and more expensive weights. depending on what the tire shop uses MAY cause an issue. obviously the cheaper weights have a weaker adhesive setup. the quality ones never will come off if properly applied.

HVAC aluminum foil tape over weights is the way,
At a minimum, you'll know if they fall off if there was aluminum tape over them.

Ceramic coating had no effect on the ability for my wheel weights to stick. I own a shop and we have black and gray stick ons. The gray sticks pretty good, but the black is horrible. I went with the black anyway to help hide tham and have had absolutely no issues.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I'm a bit less concerned now and will add some aluminum tape if I feel they're weakening at any point

What I did with my truck wheels was ceramic coat the barrels after they were balanced. Use strong 3M tape (cut to size) weights as well. The cheap ones are likely to come off on non ceramic coated wheels

I coated the new wheels for my '16 Police Utility, and the shop couldn't get weights to stick. Wound up having to clean the area where the weights needed to be....

Coating after should be no problem.

In case it helps someone I'm having this same issue as well.....wheels weights are falling off the ceramic coated wheels. Will check with Firestone if they have a way to make it work; otherwise will have to wash/polish off the ceramic coating. Wish I saw this thread earlier haha

Yes they will fall off. The mechanic balancing the wheels will need to use brake cleaner on the wheels in the spots they add weights too. Do yourself a favor and give them a few new microfiber towels to use for this. Always ceramic coat the wheels after you install and balance tires for this reason
