Hi. I was considering installing the JL 12" Trunk Bass Sub. How was the install, what Amp did you go with? How do you like the performance, Sound quality ETC. I appreciate your help.

Quite a few people have it. The TW3 sub can run from 200-400 watts but a 500 watt amp won’t kill it if properly tuned. It will add a bit more punch to your low freqs. JL makes quality audio, you really can’t go wrong with them.

there are PLENTY of subs that will run circles around a JL for less money
and I would always have plenty of headroom with the amp choice

Very subjective opinion.
Well... he is partly right after all, but (!) it all comes down to what you want to achieve and what you are able to give up.
JL has a special one in the Stealthboxes, that's a given, but if you can spend some of the trunk space there are offerings like Stere Integrity SQL-12 that are far better value for the money.
Or if you want to do Infinite Baffle there are Acoustic Elegance subs that are specifically designed for that and way less money than comparable JL subs.

Hi and Thank You for your Help. I think I will buy a Box specifically for the trunk front of my Mustang from ZenClosures for 2 each 12". Any recommendations for a great sounding Sub Woofer and which models? I want a Sub which complements my Music to what ever level I want. 70s, 80s, new Country and New Rock mostly. What AMP Upgrade and from who to run all of my 9 speakers? and what AMP to run my two Subs.
Thank You

I would do a T-harness after the ACM with soldered RCA connectors to grab the signal from the front signal lines. Best signal all around.
For subs i would use 2 Stereo Integrity SQL-12 as they are almost perfect for the limited volume of the Zenclosures. Downside is, they are a bit power hungry, but a Soundigital 2kW amp will take care of that and don't break the bank.
Depending on the amp you have to get the dual 2-Ohm or dual 4-Ohm version of the sub and wire it accordingly to get the most power out of the amplifier/match the minimum impedance of the amp.

You are correct, and “running circles” is the subjective part. Yes there are louder subs, and yes there are cleaner subs, but for the airspace requirements, low power demand, and sq performance, the 12W6 is an excellent choice with not a lot of competition. Their slim line of subs are also outstanding for minimalist enclosure space and power requirements.
Saying blanket statements like “runs circles around JL” does absolutely nothing to educate the OP, or anyone else that is interested.

I can hear you. And I have two JL subs myself, but they are really expensive for what they are, at least over here in Germany. For a 12W6 you pay way north of 1000,— € over here and this is just way too much.

2 12s with some decent power will probably way over power the stock speakers/set up. for the type of music you listed, i might even check for 10 inch subs.

just finished upgrading my stereo, added a amp & sub ( had a JL 12 but it went bad so I replaced with a rockford 12) similar specs similar sound out of the sub from same box. very pleased so far with the upgrade and it didnt break the bank.

Theres some really good info on upgrades that could help you with your decisions.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I forgot to mention, I replaced my OEM 4 each Door speakers, my 2 each Rear Deck speakers with Infinity Reference. (I decided not to go crazy)
- Which AMP and connector kit did you use for the speakers? Was it a plug and play set up or did you have to splice wires? I want to unplug my OEM 9 Speaker AMP, and Plug the new one in.
- Are you using all 9 Speakers or did you leave some out?
- Which Rockford Fosgate 12 Did you decide to go with. Your right, One High Quality 12" would be enough for our small, and loud Cars.
NOTE: I also decided not to replace my speaker wire with a larger gauge wire.
Thank you for your help

ok, well that does seem to make a difference, at least imo since the stockers were cracking and popping at higher volumes so you should be good there.
I wired in a LOC for my amp from the rear deck speakers. tapped into under the speaker shelf wire loom. ( Some say this is not required, plenty to read on that topic) use a basic wiring kit for my amp. Still running all the stock amp and wiring harness as my speakers were plug and play from Powerbass.
Correct, I am still using all 9 speakers, though, I may end up disconnecting the center channel as I've read it helps to balance things out.
also check into the forscan stuff, plenty to read on that front regarding flattening the EQ signal. Its on my to do list.
I went with a rockford P2 DVC sub. This was due to 2 things, 1 my old box with 2 JL W02's...both subs shit the bed so I needed a new one. I've had rockford's before and they worked well so i went with what I know, its priced pretty decently in comparison to other DVC subwoofers. still hits hard, I listen to a wide variety and can adjust how much i get from the LOC control that sits in my tray.

If you replaced the OEM speakers completely i would do a HRN-AR-FO3 harness (i think this is the correct one for the 9 speaker system) and solder in some RCAs to the harness.
Or you get the Rockford Fosgate DSR1 DSP which has a Maestro AR integrated and also uses the exact same harness.

Great, The Fosgate DSR1-DSR it is. Which Amplifier have you seen people use to replace their OEM 9 Speaker Amplifier? I dont even know the specs on the OEM Amplifier
Thanks
