Out of curiosity, has anyone running a JLT CAI with a Ported 18 mani ran into any idling issues. I am Lund tuned and we are trying to track down why I'm having some weird idle characteristics. At both cold (once it idles down) and operating temp, the rpm will vary between 850 and 650. Also, coming off the throttle into a neutral coast, it will drop down to 500 before the computer catches it and brings it back up. Twice now its actually died when it dipped that low. Also, when cold I can hear some intermittent popping in the exhaust that I assume is fueling related. Tyler is having me change back to the factory airbox just to see if that changes it at all, but I am finding it really weird that I am having this problem with such a common aftermarket CAI.

On a side note, I jumped the gun a little and ordered a 18+ JLT since I know the throttle body position and angle was a little different on the 18 manifold compared to the 15-17, but I still had to angle the intake tube inside the coupler pretty much all that it would allow for it to not interfere with the hood. Not happy about that but I already had plans to go to a steeda closed airbox anyways, as long as they have corrected the MAF location. Does anyone have any input on how the steeda closed airbox fits on a 18 mani swapped 15-17 car (and if the 15-17 steeda vs 18+ steeda makes a difference)? Is there any other specific CAI yall would recommend for the 18 manifold?

@Bluemustang and I both have a ported 18 manifold on our cars. We both use the 2015 jlt cold air intake without any issues. He did try the the 18+ jlt but went back to the 15-17 jlt because it performed better. I should note that we both have automatics and are lund tuned. If the car is still dying with the stock box something else is going on.

Could you define performed better? Was it a fit and finish thing or was there any tune stability issues? Also, I haven’t tried the stock box yet so I have no info on that just yet. Actually headed to the shop now to go do that so I’ll put an update when I’m done

It had more airflow vs the 18 intake. He did the test a while ago on the same day and pulled the logs.

Has anyone tried out one of these? Kind of on the expensive side but it should make for a more positive fit with less potential for unmetered air making it in. Only considering because even after angling the intake tube down in the provided coupler, I still have very slight contact between the tube and the underside of the hood and I don’t feel comfortable angling it any more than it already is.

So I'm getting a Lund tune done on my 2016 GT, and I figured I might as well get a 2018 IM swap done as well. I currently have a C&L Street CAI on, has anyone had any issue with installing that CAI with a '18 IM, or should I go for a PMAS or a JLT CAI?

Honestly, for the money and performance, the 2018+ factory airbox setup is killer. Pair that with a velossa tech big mouth and cut out the honeycomb in the grille. Even then, it will still be cheaper than an aftermarket CAI, make pretty much the same power, and drive better on the street. The benefits of a clean, factory-like maf curve will actually make the car feel fun to drive.

Gotcha, is there any additional hardware required to put in a 2018 airbox? Or is just airbox pretty much all you need?

Just go and watch the videos on you tube, i think cjpony parts tested all of the manifolds that would fit the 3 gen coyote platform, the truck manifold gave a lot of low end grunt but ran out on the top end while the performance manifolds ( 350, boss, Cobra jet )Where a mix....at the end the stocker was the best performing in the stock engine. Modified cams and internals with different fueling.... another story.

Depends on what all comes with the airbox in the sale. You can get them on eBay for around $100-120 shipped, but it's up to each individual seller as to what all comes with it. I got mine for $105 shipped and it came with a brand-new filter, all hose clamps, etc. All I had to do was reuse the factory bolt that secures the OEM filter box and it was good to go, with an updated tune of course.

Ok, bear with me, up late and didn’t read all 161 pages..lol
I Have a 2015

So to swap on a 18’ manifold, I’d need the IM, And Air box stuff , and 18+ TB

Anything else, is tube needed?

I have a GT350 TB sitting here that I can’t sell..lol..so thinking about the IM swap and using the TB I said, or will there be problems?

Or easiest to just get a 18+ TB ?

Use your own TB. 18+ is not compatible and 350 TB won’t yield better results
