Yep, classic aluminum corrosion on the hood and on the fenders. If you can take it back I would. This is usually a never ending nightmare.

@30157Shelby I’m with @matthewr87 on this one. There are clean examples and you have and option. I’d exercise the option.

Thanks guys, my hope was that it wasn’t corrosion or rust
Ford says they have a 5 year warranty on corrosion which I’m still in
This week I’ll take it to the local Ford and see what they can do. If not I’ll be returning it, such a shame I missed this

It will take new hood and fender and paint, and blending into existing paint. White is very hard to blend, you eye will catch any variation. Plenty of 350s on the internet for sale right now.

Thanks for your insight!
I didn’t consider that, if I waited for the panels and the paint didn’t match to my liking I’d be shooting my self in the foot.. gdi

Little update
I’ve taken it to my local ford
The service manager said he’s never seen anything like it as far as the side panel goes
He filed a ticket under the corrosion and took pictures. Should have an answer tomorrow.
Painting will be done at the dealer and they’re gonna completely redo the stripe across the entire car if approved
I’ll post an update soon

The location of the side panel corrosion is somewhat atypical. Usually seen more on the leading edges of the fender. However, aluminum panel corrosion has been a problem for Ford products going back over 15 years now.

In any case, just be aware that the problem will return even if they re-paint it now under warranty. It is only a matter of time (1 or 2 years if you are lucky).

Back in the S197 days guys were getting their hoods repainted every 6 months sometimes.

Yeah they’re shooting for a brand new hood and side panel and then they’ll paint to match and blend
The stripe would be redone completely

Ah okay. Glad to hear they are replacing the panels now. It is still a lottery whether you receive new panels that will corrode, but no longer the certainty that it was with just a simple repaint.

I figured there’s a chance I’d still run into that issue
The car is really clean and only has 12,000 miles for a 2018. It’s been a blast to drive so I figure I’d risk it if they just replace the panels

Yeah if you got a good deal and can live with the repainting process and the potential challenges that may entail, then you should be good to go.

+1 on Lombard Ford extended warranty. You can even pay for it over 12 months with zero interest. I bought the extended warranty on my F150 and Explorer as well as my GT350. Super nice people.

Maybe speak to an ā€œexpertā€ on aluminum prep and paint.
I would imagine the pre paint process is just as, if not more important than the paint itself.
Iā€˜m retiring from a wheel repair business and know that prep is 90% if you want it to last. I’m in a desert climate so the processes we use here are more forgiving than in Georgia.
