Hi. So I want to buy a new GT from Chapman Ford and trade in my 2020 EcoBoost high performance/ handling package manual with 5000 miles. The offer they quoted was $29000. Does that seem like a fair price? People here on this forum are getting close to what they originally paid . Am I expecting too much? What do you think?

I would suggest trying the online retailers like Vroom and Carvana. Also Carmax. Then you will have a better idea as to what is “fair”. You have a great car but it will have a limited audience. Best bet might be selling it privately. Good luck!

KBB says 29,361. Drop by CarMax and get a quote.

Fair for a manual transmission car, it would be a bit higher if A10.

What did Vroom and Carvana tell you?

I went the Vroom route in October, and it was fantastic, provided I actually get the '22 I ordered that same day they picked up the '19.

Times have changed a little though, so maybe the prices aren't quite as inflated as they were last fall, but worth checking it seems like.

Carvana last I checked was extremely low ball offers, while Vroom and KBB had much higher offers.

I think Carvana is hurting right about now, bought too many vehicles at such high prices and trying to unload at very high process - not many shoppers are biting anymore... I've seen them adjust a few Mustangs on their site down by at least a good $4k...

All the on-line retailers offered me between $28 and $29000. I paid $35000 last April. There's no way I can afford to lose $5000 plus dollars in less than a year so for the time being I'll keep it.

Unfortunately Ecoboost's do not retain their value like GT's do. Also the HPP + HP really doesn't mean anything to the online dealers so you are also losing that value. Unless you can find someone privately that wants your exact combination you are best holding on to it.

The greater-fool theory. Problem is they ran out of fools.

A local dealer did that - bought another dealer's stock for +2500. And are going to lose their ass if they take my offer. :) Thing is they made a business bet, it went bad on them and yet they act like it's my job to bail them out. Hello, business losses are writable you know. Take your spanking and try not to be so stupid in the future, eh?

You realize that in normal times you would have lost at least $5k driving it off the lot. People selling their older cars in the last few years were getting crazy money, but maybe it's swinging back. There are still shortages of new cars, but with inflation, people don't have the extra money to spend on inflated used car prices.

Dealers are wanting to offer way low prices and sell them at the over inflated prices right now. They have switched to this tactic. The HPP version is pretty cool
Though.

I was hoping to get the tax benefit of a trade in with Chapman, about $2500. If I can squeeze out $30000 from them I'll pay $600 in taxes. If I get $ 32000 somewhere else, I'll pay $2600 in taxes. These numbers are approximate but it seems somewhat equal. The thing is that I really like the car, but I want that v8 sound.

You'll miss the HPP as a road car. The GT is a pig in comparision. Sounds great, but still.
