I have solid source saying S650 will be MY24 because of chip shortages and other supply chain issues. We may get a rerun of MY22 in MY23.

Actually the shifting of the S650 to MY24 is the reason Europe could order MY22 Mach 1's.
@Twin Turbo will be disappointed.

That said, I think the Mach 1 2021 suddenly became more valuable (if this is true of course).

Wonder if this is due to the latest EPA CAFE thing dropping....maybe delay another year to see if the likely Red Wave changes things or relook the S650 strategy (how quick to bring on hybrid etc.) I wouldn't be surprised to see Mach 1 get another year. I think the reception has been positive outside of disgruntled GT350 owners. I won't be jumping in either way...plan to get a long life out of my M1.

Wouldn't be the CAFE standard yet, but the EPA probably enacted some change in emissions levels.

It's my understanding that you can't produce a 2021 in January 2022. It may not be delivered to the dealer by then, but you can't build it that way.

It may amount to a 2-3 month shutdown to retool for the new car.
That's interesting, thanks Zach. In fact, I posed that very question over on our sister forum, Mustang7G (we'd love to see you over there!)

https://www.mustang7g.com/forums/th...3-claims-autoforecast-solutions.156098/page-2

Here's the gist of my original thoughts:

"Here's a question.......and I'll admit it made my head hurt thinking about it. A couple of websites are now repeating this info that production of the '23 will start in March 2023. On one FB group, a quy working at Flatrock said it was "BS......do you really think we won't build Mustangs for 3 months at the start of 2023?" His view was that you couldn't build '22MY cars in 2023, so there would be a 3 month gap from the '22 ending and the '23 starting.

This got me thinking.......I don't recall a time when the "old" model year was built in the "new calendar year". Traditionally, the new Model Year has started around September/October......so it's clear the "new model year" can be built in the "old calendar year" (ie....the '18MY was built in 2017).......but is the opposite still possible? Can a '22MY be built in 2023? I say yes, as it'll still have a '22 VIN.

Of course, it could be that he's right. If '22 production ends in late December 2022, that would give 3 months to retool for S650. That seems a long time though. Traditionally, the model year change over coincided with the Summer plant closure which lasted 2 weeks"

So, if you cannot sell a '22MY for the first 3 months of 2023, then perhaps these are the two options:

1 - The '22MY runs from Jan 2022 to Dec 2023. Flat Rock then doesn't produce cars for 3 months whilst it's re-tooled. This would also have the added benefit of potentially stockpiling chips to ensure there are no build delays for the '24MY/S650

2- The '22MY runs from Jan 2022 to Sept 2022. A '23MY is introduced with zero changes, and runs from Oct 2022 to Feb 2023......then there's the changeover to '24MY/S650 in March 2023.

Repeat of the 1964 1/2 Mustang. Anything is possible e.g Porsche produced the 997 in 2012 and then the 991 in 2012, calling it the 2012 1/2

or you have two different '23 models, the S550 and S650. ford has done this before, most recently the 92 ranger. two different generations that year.

Ford will just make the 2022 model year run a long one.

They can call it whatever they want. It's only Mustang people that call the first ever Mustangs 1964 1/2 They were all classified as 1965's on their VIN. They all start with a 5, for 1965. If they call the S650 a 2024, they can start production in 2023, no problem. Going the other way, if they keep making S550's until spring 2023, I don't know what they'd call them, 2022 1/2, but the VIN would probably say they were 2023's?

Ford has some hard on for starting new Mustang generations in April, who the heck knows what'll happen next year? It's also the reason for only 2 years of BOSS, Bullitt, etc. Tradition.

@Zach@Granger did you mention a potential 3rd year of production the other day? I swear I remember seeing something about that.
i say last year bring back the boss and bring it back big with the 5.2 aluminator crate engine and a stage 2 cam and shorty headers and h pipe for the really really deap muscle car intimadating sound and get it about 600-620hp natraully aspirated and have it between 44k-57k coming standard with cloth seats small screen and no magneride unless you option other stuff so people can actaully afford it unlike the gt350s and gt500s and alot of mach 1s
