I had a BMW for about a month. That touch screen dash almost got me killed a few times. The seats were not comfortable after about 50 miles.
I set the touch screen and then forget it.

The Beemer had layers you needed to navigate depending on what you want to do. I suppose after enough time I would have memorized the steps but it was not a thing I wanted to learn.

Today, you have insurance fraud yoyo's that will drive around you, pull in your lane using a blinker mind you and then slam on the brakes HARD. Most are not expecting it because the vehicle driver used the turn signal and merged in just fine and nothing in front of them to cause them to need to brake hard.
They used to brake check those asleep in the fast lane strolling along holding everyone up. but now they are pulling this on those in the middle lanes also, even IF you are going 10 over or more in the middle lane(s).
This is why every vehicle I own has a 2 channel dash camera, and I have one that plugs into the power port for when I am in a rental.
People because of all the safety crap think they are in a bubble and are willing to cause a wreck with no ducks given.
Yep, dash cam a must. But no accident trumps the other guy paying your hospital bill. Fortunately signaling (or not) and pulling in front of you doesn't give fraud artists great odds if you have dropped back 2 seconds before they get there. It's not about any special planning for frauds. Someone not planning fraud poses an unnecessary risk if that close in front. Fraudster more likely to slam on the brakes but not giving 2 seconds to everyone pulling in front of you because most aren't fraudsters is like being okay with playing Russian roulette if the cylinder has enough chambers. It's just a matter of time.

Sounds like my F150. Really? I need to navigate though layers on a touchscreen in a moving vehicle?

Again, idiotic.

Yea, and my eyes are not what they used to be and the fonts were fairly small, all making it worse. Some layers had to be navigated to with a rotary dial on the center consul.

It was very frustrating.

As bad, possibly worse. I HATE the touchscreens in both my Mustang and F150. They're idiotic.

Back when I ordered my '13 Wrangler, I loaded it up with every option except the touchscreen sound system and controls. I miss the simplicity, and that I could operate everything without looking at the damn dash.
Can't blame the touchscreen ,it's not like you did not have to reach in that general area to move and turn controls for heater/ac and raidio anyways. .Idiotic is not learning how to use it properly or when the right time .half of the controls are literally on the streeing wheel as well..how much more easier do they need to make it.

LOL, nice try, but you'll never convince me that touchscreens belong in a vehicle. You basically stated the reasons.

Touchscreens are not going away, only getting bigger ,gonna have to adapt, if my 90 year old grandma was able to figure out how to use a smart phone then you guys can do this .and be safe about it. Or it's time to put the man card away and call Uber.

Why is it always something else's fault? Why as a society have we stopped taking responsibility for our actions? A touch screen is not driving the car, a cell phone is not driving the car, a Big Mac is not driving the car.

When are we as a society going to realize that things are not responsible, we as humans and our choices which have consequences. Why should I lose the ability to have systems and options that I use responsibly because others refuse to? Insanity.

I don't have to read menus while driving to move a switch.

But if I want to turn up the heat I shouldn't have to wade through 3 menus to get from the radio controls to the climate ones.

I hate touch screens in cars. I prefer the control wheel mounted on the center console. I never want to have to lean forward and touch a screen in a car.

Why do you have to use the touch screen to turn up the heat? Isn't there a dedicated switch like the one from post #102 in this thread you were referencing? I believe this switch is actually both textured and notched to be able to find easily.

I have investigated literally 100’s of automobile crashes and literally not once did someone claim they were distracted because of adjusting the heat.

I have not tried but does our car have the ability to use voice promts to adjust the climate controls?

If an adjustment needs to be made then a conscious decision on following distance and time of eyes off the road need to be considered.

I almost bought the farm one time (not in the Mustang). I went to pass an 18 wheeler on the highway and did not know a cop had literally parked his squad car in the lane adjacent I was about to enter. He had stopped to assist someone but had put up no flares or anything to warn drivers. Fortunately I swerved back at the last second. It would have been baaad, and entirely his fault.

The Cop stopped in a lane of travel and did not have their Emergency Lights Flashing? Wow
