Interior plastic scratches on new car ☹️

Hey everyone!

I put this post in the S550 general forums too, but also wanted you guys’ thoughts on it!

So - I recently bought a GT350 and noticed there were some scratches on the plastic trim inside the trunk (pics below). There are a couple in the interior door panel too. As usual, my OCD is making me go crazy over this. :(

Has anyone seen scratches like these on new cars coming from Ford? Maybe because the cars ship with the front splitter in the trunk?

Also - is there any way of getting rid of these scratches? Any input will be really, really appreciated.

Yes, mine arrived with scratched plastics, but I had them recorded before I left the dealer.

The (U.K.) dealer have 30 days to claim on ford - and that’s if Ford decide to pay as they may kick it back to the dealer.

I don’t want to post too many details yet as my claim is still going through - it’s looking hopeful though.

Look for some 303 plastic trim cleaner, most likely can clean that up. They are really not scratches, but scuff marks, scratch would have gouged the material.

Aaah dang. That’s what I was suspecting. My car was sitting at the dealers lot for some time but I couldn’t imagine what they’d do to scuff it up like this. Unfortunately I bought the car and transported it 2000 miles away to another state before I discovered this
Anyhow, I really hope Ford UK comes through with your claim. It’s definitely their fault if your car arrived that way.

Are you sure it’s called ‘303 Plastic Trim Cleaner’? The only one I found was a 303 protectant linked below:

I've used a product from Meguiars on my C7 called Back To Black, to remove shoe scuffs on the door panel and to hide scratches where the seat belt buckle hits the side plastic trim when released. I'm really happy with the results.

Hi @PJay , I see that product is available in a few stores nearby! Does it actually remove the scratches or is it more like a black paint?

It doesn't remove scratches, per se. Just makes them much less noticeable. That said, I'd call what I'm seeing in the pictures you posted scuffs, not scratches. I had white shoe scuffs on the door panels of my Vette (as much as I try to be careful not to kick them). Nothing else I tried would remove them, but B2B did.

The door panel scuffs, get used to it, no matter how hard you try it will keep happening when you get in and out of the car. It’s mostly from the right foot as you get out.

The trunk piece, see if dealer will order you that individual piece.

If not, take the bite, order a new interior trim piece from the parts department, install it, and you’ll know it’s good from then on.

Cant speak for the trunk, but the front is most definitely from a factor worker or someone going in and out of the vehicle. I have it on my car now, because of me, but it wasn't there when I bought it. With my other car though, I bought it brand new and it had marks in the same area.

I haven't noticed the marks on my trunk but then again I didn't look at the specific area. I don't know how exactly to get rid of the scratches, but you could start with some interior trim cleaner. I am sure there are some people who are more familiar with detailing here.

Hi Pat,
Yes that is it, read the directions, you'll see it says not to let it dry. I 've found it best to apply is to spray some on a MF towel. Wipe/wet the area, then come back with a dry towel.

Do it that way, keeps control of the product. Spraying the spray gets on stuff I do not want it on. Like the paint when doing the exterior trim.

Yeah I agree with you on the door panel - the one on my previous car got scuffed a lot, and I’m trying really hard to not marr this one but I don’t know how long I can be this careful. It only seems like a matter of time.

however the trunk - I have no idea how those got there. Unfortunately the deaer I got the car from is thousands of miles away. I don’t think I can have the, change it.

Just wondering if anyone else had theirs come this way from the factory, like @WD Pro ’s GT.

That is what I was thinking too. My car was also sitting in the dealer for a few months, so the door scratches could have come from there too. It suck that they have to use this sort of a material in such a vulnerable area.
Speaking of your other car that had this sort of scratching from the factory, was that a mustang too?
The scratches in the trunk are bothering me more as they’re in such a weird area. I can imagine how those wou get there.
