obvioulsy, just needs the black roof.. but if your have the allocation, it would be very unintelligent to NOT order the CFTP option as well..when i find a used Iconic CFTP with balcstripes/blac roof, im buying it

I'll throw this one out there....

It will be very unlikely that you will ever find an iconic CFTP painted stripes car with a black painted roof. If any ever exist, it may be only a few.

So, would you buy a CFTP with no painted stripes and a black painted roof? Or would you buy one with stripes and either paint the roof or vinyl wrap it?

If it has to be factory original, it may never happen unless you order it. And who knows, it may not be an option in '21.

Absolutely KB. That was my point...not my taste...but to each their own.

Personally, I prefer the made to order top shelf burger that has just the right fixins to satisfy my appetite.

Sorry is this is old news guys, but while getting the oil changed in my GT350 today I noticed a GT500 sitting at the dealer (tucked away, covered in dust, not in the showroom, likely waiting for customer to pick up)...

Anyway, it’s a non-CFTP car but it has painted stripes! I didn’t think that combo was possible. I also noticed the sticker says “Special Order” with an MSRP of $89,595.

Oh, how I wish this car was mine. I admire you guys who’ve been able to get this car without paying $10k+ mark ups. I’ve been unsuccessful with various attempts and gave up months ago. However, seeing this car today made me tingle all over...

Am I reading the sticker right, $10k for the painted Stripes? Those are basic Two Center stripes with no boarder stripes which are more expensive. I am paying $2000 to get mine done with Pearl and 4 coats of clear. I would suggest shopping around if painted stripes is where you are heading.

Yes, but most are doing it because it is OEM. It is part of the VIN. My dealership and surrounding body shops were more like 4K to 5K. I decided to do it because I spent 18.5K on a CFTP, why not get the stripes?

This is on point. Expensive for sure though.

Nobody will want a GT500 with Joe Blow painted on stripes ...even if they are 10x better done. Its all about originality, OEM and VIN tracking. Of course this mostly applies to potential future collectibility and values.

Its just personal preference. If I didn't get the CFTP, I certainly would not have spent the money on OEM stripes. I would have no issue with aftermarket stripes on a base 500

I am kicking myself for not at least having the salesman ask if my late allocation could have gone for a CFTP. By the time you add the handling pack and Recaro's on the base car, a CFTP would have only been $15,400 more. I am sure it would not have been approved for a CFTP but I still should have asked.

it’s been 5+ months since I started this thread. As I indicated in my original post, I had already long since given up the hunt for a GT500. This experience didn’t exactly get me going again, at least not in a meaningful way. When the dealer said they’d call me about that car “in a few days,” for a fleeting moment I dreamed that car could be mine. But alas, they never called. Shocking, I know. This is the same dealer I have purchased other cars from (as recently as my 2019 F-250) and used exclusively for service on multiple cars.

A few months later I sold my GT350 (daily drive it for two years), and bought a BMW M4 Competition Pkg. Very different car from the 350 (it’s actually faster, better interior, tech, creative comforts, etc and it doesn’t bottom out on my driveway, etc.).

I also reserved a Bronco (First Edition). Guess which dealer did NOT get my deposit. lol.

But for some reason I still have GT500 in the back of mind. If I’m not mistaken the base cars have “cooled” a bit. I spent a couple hours looking last week (for the first time in six months) and was able to find two on the ground and priced at MSRP. Hmmm... Part of me says “do it” cuz duh, 760hp! But the practical side of me says “do you really want another S550...?? So much of it is the same as my old GT350 which got old after two years...

Not quite on topic with this thread, but figured I’d offer an update since it was suddenly resurrected.

Bringing this back on topic... having already done the aftermarket vinyl stripes and roof on my GT350 (pic below... the car came naked from the factory), I would absolutely pay $2k (but maybe not $4-$5k) to a body shop for painted stripes and roof on a base GT500. Why not? I have actually come to hate vinyl on a car. Sure it’s cheaper but you get what you pay for. Vinyl doesn’t look as good, it’s harder to maintain, and shows wear quicker. Who cares if the painted stripes don’t match the vin? Life is short, and I wouldn’t be buying this car to watch it get top dollar at Mecum in 30 years.
