How do dealers keep screwing up GT350 oil changes? It is simple, dump 10 qts of oil in, its on the full line every time.

My suggestion is to change your own oil

I don't know maybe they can't get in there heads the car takes 10 quarts. I know when I had the oil changed on my 16 the first time at dealership I bought it from I made sure they had 10 quarts of proper oil. The parts guy and service guy looked at me as if I were nuts. Then one of them said "you do mean 10 quarts, right" I said YES and I want to see the empty bottles which they did show me.

Yes, most are the standard 8 qt underfill. This is the first time I've seen an overfill. That would seriously make me think that they didn't use the correct oil.

The OP hasn’t replied as to what his dipstick read when “ full “ before? If he doesn’t know then I would protect my $ 22000? Engine and start all over with supervision ( drained long enough and watching the 10 going in then start and sit long enough for the correct dipstick reading on his engine for the understanding and future.

I think he would be ok no matter what. I would open the drain just a bit (I would not do the oil filter technique mentioned above) and be ready for gobs of oil to come out. You probably wouldn't need to remove the plug at all, just crack it open and keep it in there and let about a quart seep out. Put it all back together and slowly add oil until it is at the top of the dipstick full mark.

I would also verify oil filter torque as well.

Even if they used the wrong oil, it would probably be ok. other than having it analyzed, I am not aware of a way of knowing what they put in there. If the OP isn't tracking the car, it probably wouldn't make much of a difference. I realize many folks don't have time to do their own maintenance, but being a GT350 owner leaves an extra burden to ensure the tech knows what he is doing. I've read stories of people who want to watch the guy do the work. That's why I think I'm just better off doing it myself to avoid these problems.

Very good common sense of course from you . My dipstick shows approximately halfway and was changed before I took delivery. Maybe 300 miles ago. Curious out there what levels we are seeing on these dipsticks after a good correct oil change on other 350s?

I forgot to mention mine has not changed in the 150 miles since I put on it so at approximately 150 miles changed it was at half way on the dipstick .

From a previous post it is good to supervise, know exactly how much oil is put in, and see how that looks on your door stick. On both of my Shelby's it was always right at the bottom of the upper hole.

So an update...

I did use the drain plug to remove 1 quart which got the level back to where it should be. Didn't have much trouble removing that small amount as I just backed the plug out V slowly until it began to come past it in a dribble and then was patient.

For those worried about oil usage - I have since done another 1,300 miles including a 2 day track weekend and 2 half day track sessions. The oil level has dropped very slightly - I would guess about 1 pint of usage tops.

My suspicion is that they drained the oil seconds after stopping the engine and there was an extra quart still draining down when they put the plug back in. Then they just dumped in the 10 quarts.

I had the local Ford dealer do the 1st oil change around 1,100 miles a month ago. Just checked the oil for the 1st time since and the level is about 4mm above the upper dipstick hole. Does anyone know how far above is a real issue? The car has done 800 miles since the oil change.

The next question is whether I take it back there and ask them to remove some or do it myself. I'm inclined to the former as I don't have an easy way to let a small amount of oil out and I want them to see the issue.
The GT350 oil change is idiot proof, or so we thought. Drain, remove oil filter, replace oil filter, put 10 qts of oil in. Done.

It's possible you're right about what they did. If the extra oil was still in the top end of the engine that would explain it. I was wondering whether they changed the oil filter, because leaving the old oil filter attached to the engine would also create the situation you described.

Wow - I hadn't thought of that and I bet you are right. I'm going to do the next one myself.

I debated to myself whether I should say anything because I didn't want to freak anyone out. Hopefully they just put an extra quart in or didn't give the oil time to drain from the top end. It definitely comes out very fast from the pan. So someone in a hurry could pop the plug, drain it and re-install the plug very quickly. When I changed oil at home I would hold the plug partially in the opening while the oil drained so it wouldn't flow out too quickly and overwhelm my waste oil container.
