Good call on putting the flex pipe in there. Leaving the muffler open would echo and sound like ass. Kinda like hollowing out cats, it sounds terrible.

Yeah.. I had a sneaky suspicion it would have echoed like crazy. Like every subwoofer box out there.

I'm guessing re face lift mustangs muffler. I have 19 I wonder what's in my mufflers? They are heavy af!!! I think 30lbs each just picking them up. I am also interested in a sound clip. I also wonder if you put some of the baffling like the straight throu mufflers have what kind of difference you could make. I want to dropp the weight down but I don't want to be too loud like the coursa extremes or roush axle backs

No need for baffling as it bypasses the muffler completely.

Here's a clip of some other guys 17. Albeit it still has the suitcase on it.

SO I took the advice of a earlier commenter and decided just to secure the lid on the muffler instead of welding it on. Easy access in case something comes loose. Then just chromed taped the seams to keep the nasty out.

… or you want to add some fiberglass packing to "tune" the sound to your liking.

Finally got the parts to finish off the second muffler. FYI deliveries seemed to have slowed a wee bit. Now to button it all up and let the insanity testing begin. Oh and to answer a deleted comment, yes I can afford a "real" axleback. More to come!

Ok.. so with it plus 12c today, roads basically empty due to the rona, I buttoned everything up, took it for a rip.

COLD START: Loud, but not obnoxiously loud.
WARM IDLE: sounds exactly like a 1965 289cid/306hp Mustang GT350 competition
CRUISING UNDER 3000 rpm: sounds exactly like a 1965 289cid/306hp Mustang GT350 competition
OVER 4000 rpm: sounds exactly like a 1965 289cid/306hp Mustang GT350 competition
WOT: sounds exactly like a 1965 289cid/306hp Mustang GT350 competition but much louder.

Firing orders are close:
SBF 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 (early 289/302)
Modular 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 (5.0 coyote)
cyl 2&8 cyl 3&7 are swapped.

I like it, I like it a lot! By camera sound sucks. So to get a good idea here ya go:

I'm not sure if you've done this already, but I think you can save time and money on rustproofing the interior. I doubt the muffler will rust out.

Great job on the DIY. I have a full exhaust already, but I still love these custom projects. They're always interesting.

Thank you Sir! I need to get a proper gopro to make some good quality videos to try and capture that awesome sound! Oh and yesterday I took it for a drive (clear skies, 15 degrees celsius), and did the 'drone' test, 30 mph in 5th gear varying the amount of throttle given. Result was zero drone, I'm a happy camper! Except for today, I'm looking at close to 30cm of snow outside and -4c haha.

So now that everything works as intended, was time to take everything apart and weld it up all proper like. Inside the muffler, weld the lid back on, weld it back to the axleback. Nice. Sunny day. Then it snowed. On April 20th. You can stop this bullshit anytime now Ma Nature.

It's been a bizarre April for sure here too … basically had all 4 seasons in 1 day several times last week.
