Hello forum family.
I owe and drive a 2017, 2.3l s550, this is also my daily driver. I’ve done a few mods to it of course, such as; intercooler, cai, performance coil packs and exhaust. I’ve also purchased a SCT s4 tuner with lifetime tune from Bama.
Back in last year November, I blew my engine, literally. The ting goes boom, eco-boom, leaving a big hole in the engine block. I had warranty so ford replaced the engine. This all happened before I even added the exhaust mod. Anyways, fast forward to when i got back my car from ford, it drive perfectly fine, so I dropped back in my aftermarket coil packs, start feeling the rough idling again. Fine, I took them out, reinstalled the stock, car runs good no problems. I had the aftermarket coil packs replaced, then when I received them, I loaded back my custom tuner back onto my car, it runs fine. Well at least so I thought.
I’ve come to realize that once I reached 120mph in sport mode, the engine check light comes on, engine lose power.
This problem will go away once I back off 120 and drive normal. This happens in the 4th grade while driving sport mode. If I catches 4th and rev to 4.5k rpm then catch 5th, I don’t experience this misfire.
Also, when I drive in normal mode, I do no experience this issue. The car just limit me at 125-130mph thou I have a tuner on it that should’ve removed the speed limiter.
I’m thinking to just sell this crap sct s4 turner or toss it and get myself a Cobb.
Cause I think I’m on the verge of eco-boom again!!

What do you guys think could be the culprit? The programs I have on the car or manifold issue?
im seeking some answers please

I've heard lots of people have issues running BAMA tunes on these engines so I think that may be your issue.

I wouldn't chuck the SCT as opposed to investing in a different tune. Can't personally speak for the Accessport stage tunes on the Cobb but I believe Unleashed and Lund have had the best results (as far as canned tunes go). That or take it and get dyno tuned properly by a reputable shop.

First problem, Bama tunes for Eco's are absolute garbage, get that off your car asap. Definitely get a cobb and go with a reputable custom tuner of the platform, such as PD Tuning, Tune+ or Stratified.

Next switch back to stock coil packs, aftermarket ones are a gimmick now a days. C.O.P technology has come a long way since first introduced and manufacturers have got it down, Ford wouldn't leave power on the table from sub par coils.

Then make sure you get yourself some 1 step colder NGK plugs https://www.tuneplusinc.com/collect...stang-catch-cans-accessories/products/ngk6510 either order the pregapped ones or get them yourself and gap to spec in link.

If you're still getting a misfire, it's most likely the head gasket starting to weep into the cylinder especially between cylinders 2 and 3, there is a very thin amount of gasket material. Lateral movement of the head under boost slowly wears the gasket down and can cause it to weep causing a misfire.

It's your coil-packs, IMO. It's the consistent variable in this.

Why did you replaced them?

I agree with both of these. Most aftermarket C.O.P.'s are designed to just take your money and their quality is sub par compared to the factory originals.

Also I've gotten burned from a canned tune before, so now I only do local dyno tunes where the tuner is right there to fix any flaws immediately before I go out the door.

Honestly, I’ve been thinking a lot about the factors that could possibly be the cause. I was wondering about the gasket as well, but I didn’t really welcome the thought as Ford replaced the engine recently. Also since that would be a major repair I know it’s gonna cost me a few hundred bucks to have it diagnosed and by extension repaired. So I was leaving that as my last option. I am now in the process of grabbing a Cobb to replace the Bamma, I’ve spoken with a sale tech from precision tuning as I was seeking a turbo upgrade and he flat out told me to get rid of bama and go with Cobb. But I honestly thought it was some ploy of his to increase commission/boost his sale so I brush it off.

I was seeking more power... which I honestly felt after I installed them, I could feel the pull after each gear.

The tuner is right, Bama is crap. I'd recommend getting this issue figure out before pulling the trigger on a turbo.

Most certainly, I won’t be proceeding with any turbo/major upgrade until my engine issues are fixed.
I also book an appointment to have my car dyno tested and tune locally next Friday... so this is what I’ll be doing from here on out, when it comes onto tuning.
Thank you guys for the feedback, it’s greatly appreciated!!! Much respect ✊
