With respect to Gary Patterson after we left the B-J auction in LV he was kind enough to give me a ride over to his facility in LV for a personal tour and also was able to get a ride in the old Lexus which I believe was his parents car but in terrific shape and allows him to get around Vegas in something reliable.

During the tour of SA I got to know Gary much better and must say that he was very cordial and gracious with his time and really appreciated spending time talking with him about all things Mustang and Shelby American.
Gary is a good friend and his son races people in that old Lexus lol.

Another Pony Car Coming
One of the reasons that I am so excited about my upcoming 2020 R in Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue OTT stripes is that it reminds me of my 1965 Mustang that was done up as a Competition Model from back in the day.

This was a "C" code '65 2+2 but I was running a modified "K" code engine that loved to rev and could regularly shift at ~6500 RPM's which back in 1985 that was pretty cool stuff for a street car.

When I bought it from a buddy of mine he had owned it for about a year as he had purchased it out of the San Jose, Ca. area as a street car but found it more of a race car than a street car therefore I immediately took it off his hands and was very happy to do so.

After purchasing it I tried to research the history of this car based on a decal on the engine compartment which read "PIVEC RACING" but unfortunately never got too far but did enjoy the car from 1985 to 1992.

This car came with 3.00 rear end gears therefore it was set up for a road course and remember being able to pull 60 MPH in first gear after which time I dropped in some 3.70 gears in it and made it much more streetable.

Really loved the sound of this car from 3500 RPM and up as the side exhaust was music to my ears.

Here we are some 35 years later and waiting for another Mustang that also comes in Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue OTT stripes and also is another 2 seat Mustang just as I had many years ago and can't wait for it to show up.

I was able to find some old pictures of my 1965 Mustang 2+2 that was predicated somewhat on a GT350 Competition Model from back in the day and had so much fun with this car.

It came out of San Jose in 1984 and I took possession of it in 1985 and owned it for ~7 years.

It is my understanding that this car was a road course car and raced under "Pivec Racing" back in the early 80's.

With no interior I believe that I had this car down to ~2700# and was a pretty quick car once I took out the 3.00 road course gears and installed a new set of 3.70's.

A modified "K" code engine, Ray Brown competition lap belts, Koni shocks, Stinger coil, 8 quart Mororso oil pan with dual remote filters, 15 inch Shelby steering wheel, lots of gauges, full length racing mirror and shifted regularly at ~6500 RPM it was an extremely fun car and should have never sold it and believe that the guy I sold it to still owns it as he used to vintage race this car in the PNW and hope still does.

Hope some of these pictures bring back some great memories for any of the older guys that were around back then some 35 years ago.

That picture was taken shortly after a car show in Vancouver, B.C. Canada some 30 years ago and never noticed it until you just pointed it out!!

It’s not a typical GT350 I am talking about but the statement from Ford “LIMITED EDITION HERITAGE PACKAGE”. I could hear the salesman now “it’s a collectible and Ford is make very few of them”. I don’t think I’m saying anything new that most Ford dealers play these games. It’s up to the buyer in the end to make the decision.
Id love to know where that guy is located as IM SURE buying a car THERE is just a cakewalk, right? ... :)

  • Heritage Edition Package available on 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R models features a unique throwback livery with Wimbledon White paint and Guardsman Blue side and over-the-top racing stripes
  • Car’s classic styling is a tribute to Carroll Shelby’s historic 1965 fastback coupe that helped establish the GT350 brand
  • Heritage Edition Package is available for ordering at Ford dealers now, with production starting in early 2020; package adds $1,965 to 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R MSRP
DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 19, 2019 – A year before Ken Miles set lap records at Le Mans in Ford’s famed GT40, the noted race car driver and engineer made waves on the track in the first 1965 Mustang Shelby GT350 fastback coupe. Ford is celebrating this legacy 55 years later with a new limited-edition 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350 Heritage Edition Package.

Miles made Shelby GT350 an instant legend when he drove it to victory at Green Valley Raceway in Texas on Feb. 14, 1965. Since then, the Shelby GT350 has been a Mustang icon.

For 2020, Ford is producing a limited run of Heritage Edition fastbacks finished in classic Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue side and over-the-top race stripes in a nod to the 1965 GT350 competition model developed by Carroll Shelby. The United States has sported blue and white as its assigned international racing colors since the 1950s. Additional Heritage Edition cues include front and rear exterior badges finished in Guardsman Blue and a unique dash badge inside. GT350R models will feature all-black seats with red accent stitching.

“Looking back on it, what Ford and Carroll Shelby created back in the mid-’60s was so important to Mustang,” said Jim Owens, Ford Mustang marketing manager. “With their authentic exterior livery, unique appointments and performance Ken could have only dreamed of, the Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R Heritage Edition Package vehicles are a meaningful tribute to the legacy of the Shelby brand.”

The throwback Heritage Edition Package comes a year after Shelby GT350 received a host of upgrades. These include revised front chassis geometry for improved steering feel, plus revised antilock braking and MagneRide™ tuning for optimized aerodynamic components resulting in improved ride, stability and handling for both road and track. Shelby GT350R gets a redesigned high-trail steering knuckle leveraged from the all-new Shelby GT500 for 2020. It also features a new steering rack and recalibrated electric power steering control.

The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT350 has a starting MSRP of $60,440, plus taxes, title, delivery and license fees; GT350R has a starting MSRP of $73,435, plus taxes, title, delivery and license fees. The Heritage Edition Package is available for $1,965. Dealers are taking orders for Heritage Edition Package vehicles now, with cars slated to ship this spring. Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R are proudly built with foreign and domestic parts at Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.

This is interesting to me. I have not seen it mentioned anywhere else that the changes improved steering feel. These were trickled down from the 500 development which people have been saying doesn't have as much feel. It sounds like it's the change to the Cup 2 tires that's providing the steering feel difference. Not that it matters, I just found it interesting.

Only the 2020 R model received the 500 steering rack, not the base GT350 which got its product update in 2019 minus the GT500 steering geometry.

That's what I mean. Nowhere else do I see any mention of the change being an update to steering feel for the 2019. However, the change to Cup 2s certainly changes the steering feel, having done that swap myself. It just sounds like marketing fluff for what is essentially more feel from the tires.
