The final chapter on my 2015 hood corrosion problem. Just paid $2300 out of pocket for a new hood. Dealer scraped the bubbling paint off front and back, showed pitting in the aluminum. Re-submitted to Ford, got same response as before. No Warranty. Ford has made their bed with me. Previously stopped buying F-150's for my business in 2015 due to premature rust issues at the wheel wells on the beds. Now by Rams. Turned down a deals on a new 2019 Nautilus in July for my wife and a new 2019 Ranger in September for my winter vehicle and bought a Volvo XC60 and a GMC Canyon Denali instead. Sorry for the dealer, they have been very supportive. Ford just doesn't care.

At least as many GM buyers have gone "never GM again" and moved to Ford as there are buyers like yourself
who have gone "never Ford again" and moved to GM. The 'next sale' does not change a corporate bottom line.
If I were the dealer I would have fixed it. That said, if I were the dealer it would look like a rock chip to me.
Good explanation of the paint & corrosion warranty above. Sorry it did not work out. There are ways a custom
paint shop can repair that bad section without going for a new hood. Another option is the vinyl sport bra.
I once worked as a spray painter in an aircraft part mfg. facility. With that skill, I have ever devised ways to
repair one bad spot, chip, or dent on a body panel. I will say this, it is time consuming. You need skill, the real
deal Ford paint, low viscosity filler, and 400-1500 and 2000 grit abrasive paper. Plus clear coat and polishing
compound, When finished you cannot find the bad spot. It is faster for a body shop to repaint the whole hood
than fix the chip. Reason: skill and patience. However, the general rule is the factory paint is always superior.
The more factory surface finish you can retain the better off you are.

I have not been to a Camaro web site in five years. However, Camaro owners were treated worse or no worse than you.
Door speaker issues, 100s failed an GM did not warrant a single one. IRS alignment and other chassis issues,
GM would not even talk about it. One guy lost his 6.2 Liter LS engine due to an oil pump failure at 8K miles.
GM refused warranty because he installed an aftermarket PCV oil separator on the plenum intake line. He was
backed in a corner with car payments and there his $44K with tax and options Camaro sat, and sat and sat. I felt
sorry for that guy. He could not afford a new 6.2 Liter LS with install. Buy the car or truck you really want.
There is no relationship from one purchase to another

thanks for your reply. Repair was a non issue as every body shop and dealer I visited indicated that the spot would return and other areas would likely pop up in the future. The real issue is screwing people who have invested in what they thought was a quality product with a manufacturer that would stand behind it. Don't feel sorry for me, I have the resources to deal with it. Feel sorry for the folks who don't and have to live with bubbly hoods, crappy transmissions(Focus and Fiesta) and blown up Camaro motors. Sad!

I cannot disagree with your actions. Given the body shop expert survey I would have bought the new hood.
But saved the old hood. Filed a small claim for $2500 against dealer/Ford in my county. Presented expert survey
to support faulty materials claim. Inform court faulty part is available for 3RD PARTY expert exam at defendant's cost.
Before you go back to court to unseal the 3RD PARTY examination, which will decide the claim, Ford will buy it back
from you for $2500. Maybe even before the first hearing. It cost them $3000 to have an attorney walk in a court room.
It cost you the filing fee. I admit it is a bunch to go through but if what pro body experts told you is correct you have a cause.
This assumes there is still bumper to bumper warranty in force. It is not a corrosion claim. It is a materials claim.

Looks like a rock chip OP, no dealer will fix under warranty. 800 miles on mine and I had 3 chips on the front, decided to put Xpel wrap on.
I agree about the wrap. Definitely have some PPF put on the front bumper cover and hood at the very least. It will help. Only true fix is the entire car resprayed with a more durable paint and process. On both the 19 Ruby Red I own currently and the black 18 I just traded both scratch and chip way too easy. So idk if it's the paint, the process or what but the 18 and 19 models are bad about chipping and scratching and the hood and front bumper cover are the 2 most affected areas. One of my employees has a 2014 and it has 50k miles on it. The entire front especially the leading edge of the hood looks like it's been through a war zone. I fixed a lot of it by filling the chips then wet sanding with 1500/2000/3000 and using a DA with Meguiars 105 to compound and 205 to polish. Some spots you can see a little but overall looks so much better.

Ford will fix that. They fixed my friends issue. They replaced the hood completely.

most new cars have very thin paint. That’s why they scratch and get chips so easily. A millimeter ford saves on paint thickness on the whole body of the car multiplied by the millions of cars they make adds up

But in the end this is a verified issue by ford which is covered under warranty. The hood corrosion issue is documented with ford

Jeez, is Ford going backward? Just joined this forum after trading up to a '16 GT. Been reading on here about all the wacky flaws these cars have, and it 's really disappointing. AC evaporators? Are you serious? Thought that stuff went away with the Fox body, my '89 LX included.

Now hood corrosion? I had that, and it was a common problem, on my '81 Crown Vic company car. Ford's had almost 40 years to fix that nonsense. What gives?

I had to google "OPG" mentioned on here so often. Oil pump gears made of powered metal? Seriously?

Maybe I should have kept the Cobra. I love the new to me car, but....this is discouraging.

I no longer have my 16 GT, but I daily my 16 F150 so I'll have to be on the lookout as well.

These forums can be a blessing when you need help but they're also a curse. Topics like these scare the shit out of you and make you paranoid that your car is next lol.

You are 100% spot on. I do know the paint on my late model F250'S is much better than on the 18 and 19 Mustangs I've owned. The 18 I recently traded for the 19.

Semp1. Ford extended the warranty back to 16's. Does not include 15's. The folks talking about chips are off topic. This is a galvanic corrosion problem on aluminum hoods.

I didn’t read through every post but I get these approved very frequently by Ford. Usually on the Explorers. I haven’t seen a Mustang come in with it but it’s the same warranty. Ford approves to replace it every time as long as it’s still within the corrosion warranty. Chrysler has this issue as well, commonly on the Pacifica’s.

Paint has always been an issue with cars. In the 90’s, I had my F150 SC totally repainted because of issues with the switching to water based paints. My 2013 developed blistering on the hood. After voicing my thoughts that it could not be fixed, they assured me that it could and the job would warranted. After I talked to the contracted body shop, I found that a properly trained paint technician can repair the problem, but I also know that many body shops do not send their people to learn the technique needed. It’s why I don’t deal with most dealerships. You find one that takes care of the customers and it makes the problems less likely.

This is what the OP has. Could you have gotten this approved?
