I have a 2019 Mustang GT with A10 gearbox, 3rd gear is changed with a sharp jerk. It is noticable especially when I switch gears manually using the flips from 2-3 or 4-3. From driving point of view it is a good feeling (my head is shaking :-)), but I am worrying as other gears change smoothly.

If the gearbox is in Normal mode it usually switches gears from 1-3 directly smoothly, but sometimes under slowing I feel the same sharp jerk when gearbox switches back to 3.

Is it normal, or can I do anything with that?

How long have you been driving it? The gearbox adapts to your driving style over so many miles from new, so it may still be learning your driving habits.

I have a 2018 GT with 29,000 miles and it has been doing this for about 10,000 miles now. I get this jerk from 2-3 and 4-5 when switching manually or by putting it in any other mode than normal. I think its due to our transmission not having the proper amount of fluid fill from the factory. I am having mine checked out soon.

My GT has 9,000 miles and I usually drove it in Normal mode. I also noticed this jerk changing to 5th gear, but not that sharp as changing to 3rd. These days I am driving in S mode, as in Normal 2nd and 4th gears are skipped usually, maybe that causing that sharp jerk when changing from 2-3 or 4-3, 4-5, etc. Maybe driving more and more in S mode the gearbox will adapt himself to this style.

Unplug your battery for about 15 minutes or so, and then plug it back in. The transmission will relearn itself. Hopefully this helps

Thanks for the tip, I'll try this. Will the car keep its other settings if I disconnect the battery?

No. You’ll have to reset your gauges you want on your screen (if you have the digital screen). You’ll have to set up your “my mode” again. Just little things like that.

My transmission was shifting harshly/jerking when I bought it with 9k on the odometer. It started to get worse in the cold weather. Then I got the transmission checked and it was 2 quarts low. Got that added and it has been a lot smoother ever since.

Did you fix it by checking the transmission fluid?

I never did and when things shut down due to COVID things got really pushed off. It is on my to do list though.

Guess I need to have the fluid checked.Last couple days when leaving work, so not fully up to temp, AND using sport mode vs regular the first shift into 4th the car falls flat and has a VERY bad hesitation. Doesn't do it again just the first time on the 3 - 4 shift. 7,200 miles on it.

Hi, any update?
Yes, went to the Ford service, they reset the gearbox software (actually they reset the adaptive learning of gearbox) and problem is gone.

Just wondering if you ever experienced harsh downshifts? Mine is now exhibiting this in D, on closed throttle coast down, on the 5>4 and 4>3 down shifts.
