Hey everyone, just wondering has anyone had an issue with their autos locking up in third? My auto and 2 other guys in my area have the exact same issues and I want to know if this is common to the 6R80?

First I'm hearing of this type of issue with the 6R80.

Can you post up more specifics, such as how the failure occurred and what exactly you are experiencing?

Will it not shift past 3rd in any mode?

I loaded a new tune from my tuner, and on my way home I decided to try it out. I was at 50% throttle and paddle shifting, on the 4-5 shift I heard a loud sound and felt a thud from the trans tunnel area. I coasted to the side of the road and put it in park. I then put the car in Drive and begane to drive. It held 1st gear and then shifted into 2nd and then into 3rd where it would not shift any higher or lower than that. When I stopped I had to turn off the engine and then turn it back on so that I could drive off starting in 1st gear. I had to do that every time I came to a stop. I tried Sport mode and the gear numbers would not light up nor would it shift when I hit the paddles. Its now waiting to be torn apart....

Local guy that builds transmissions recommends 10-20k miles tranny fluid swaps depending on how the car is driven. If you're on boost then you should follow this kind of intervals. 100k miles or whatever ford says is beyond ludacris.

That 2nd to 3d shift sounded very soft and slipping.

Local Tuner here.
35k miles on powertrain.
This is not a common issue. The 6r80 has proven to be a very stout and reliable transmission; bulletproof even.

Probably tune related. I'd start with loading the stock tune to see if it goes back to normal.
Does your local tuner have experience tuning 11-17 GT's?

Very likely tune related then if same issue, same tuner for all 3...
