Hi all,

First time buying a tune here. I have a BBK cold air intake and an xpipe. Basic mods and not really extreme on the slightest. My tuner sent me the stock 91-93 tune for my car. I loaded it and I did the logging. He said it looked great, so I got the flex fuel and e85 tune. Then I did a pull with each one and he said it looked great.

I am having an issue with downshift rev matching, but only on the flex fuel and e85 tune. When I downshift, the car will rev match, then bog, then rpms go back up, then back down. Sometimes once or twice, sometimes it keeps doing it until I let out the clutch. I asked about this and my tuner said it was because of my BBK cold air intake temps.
I asked if we needed to start over the process if I just switched back to stock CAI. He said yes.

My questions are thus.

If I received no revisions, does that make these their canned tunes?

If not, how do they tune for an aftermarket CAI without any revisions?
Is my tuner full of it?

Is it likely that these are canned tunes and my tuner was just a little lazy?

Thoughts and opinions are welcomed. I am open to any help or experience anyone might have. I know, ask your tuner. But getting an answer takes awhile, and it's never a complete answer, it's always a half answer. Is mystery a common theme with tuners?

Car is very sensitive to maf readings when flex or e85. That bbk is worthless. Put your stock intake back on.

Yep, they are all that way to an extent. Criptic dialogue is the way they do it. The more info they share with you the more questions you might have, meaning spending more time and less profit.

Canned tune is a vague way of saying it, but essentially it is true. The big name tuners will have tunes setup for all different kinds of configurations. So they will have a library of tunes based on mods. Everything is based on a "Base" tune which has the normal stuff like TQ limits, Clutch protection, AT mapping if an auto, LTH's etc already done. Then they change the MAF curve for a particular intake and make copies based on the intakes MAF curve. IE: JLT, PMAS, Airraid etc. They have you send a revision to make sure everything looks alright. IF you have good fuel they may add a degree or two of timing via the Advance Limit Table, like Cylinder Pressure. IF it is shit gas they may retard it a degree, again by a limit table.

Once you put together a solid BASE tune file, the rest is easy.

Thanks for the information. I really know next to nothing.

I just did that. Thanks for the help. My IATs are way lower, but it's still hunting when I downshift rev match. I opened a new ticket because the previous one was closed, and I logged and sent the issue in with the stock air intake installed. The car is actually running a lot better, with the exception of the rev matching. My highest IAT at idle has been 127 in 85 degree ambient. But that's after sitting for 15 minutes.

If you have not already pull out the carbon trap in upper box. Get ur self a dry flow filter if you want. You can also drill out in grill area in front of cold air intake a little bit for more air flow.

Wow that is exactly what Lund is doing to me me. Unfinished answers, no answers, screaming Datalog for every question lol.
Anybody try PBD or are they the same?
Thx.

People have to realize that tuning is a business. And there are also a lot of anal retentive customers who, if Lund gives the wrong answer to, will start a shitstorm on the internet even if they do not understand what is being said. Sad, but true. The more they elaborate the more they open themselves up to their reputation being smeared.

Honesty here - for what these tuners charge it's a wonder to me they are still in business. Time is expensive. Everyone's time is valuable. For a couple hundred bucks on a tune everyone expects them to be available for questions 24/7. Pretty sure Lund knows what they're doing. Best to trust them - the guys who tune for a living.

Slow down there Haus! I'm not talking shit, Lund is working on the issue, and logging is part of the process, i send a log with every question and every issue. I was just curious about the process, as I have zero experience with tuners. If this is the normal procedure, then no one is getting the shaft here and all is well. I just didn't know anything, thus the questions. Right now they are working on the issue with the rpms bouncing when downshift rev matching. They even asked for a video, as they can see the rpms move in the log, but the throttle is doing what it is supposed to do for the auto rev match. I don't expect miracles, just a good tune. Seems to me that's what they are providing.

WTF. I'm not losing it, nor saying you are.
Lol I'm not using caps nor screaming Lund = Bad.
I am having issues with my Rev match also. But I don't expect answers right away and I don't mind waiting a couple days for them. I'm just stating I would like that when I ask two questions that I receive two answers not one. Also when I asked if my Rev match option could be deleted I was told to send a Datalog. The question did not need a datalog to be answered. Sorry for getting on your thread I thought you wanted dialogue?
Peace out.

I do want dialogue. I'm chill. A simple misunderstanding.

BTW, you can turn off rev matching in your menu. But that's on a manual. Are you manual or Automatic?
