I disagree. I'm an older guy who can afford a GT. Frankly, I can afford to drive a GT-350, or an Audi, BMW, Porsche, etc. I don't drive any of those cars because none of them offers the combination of low acquisition cost, killer style and performance I get with a GT PP2.

It's not the performance, or the styling, or the cost by themselves that makes the Mustang what it is, it's the unique combination of all those things together. This is the reason that the Mustang is eating the Camaro's lunch.

The '70-'73 is my favorite iteration of the Camaro, and styling to that end would have made the 6th gen.

I hate the new SS snout, but don't mind the lower trim front ends as much...

I prefer the '68/69 version, but regardless this drawing has the same bunker-like windows of the current. The '60s and '70s versions were easy to see out of unlike today's version. They need to prioritize fixing that, only so many people will prioritize the aggressive appearance over their own peace of mind.

Mustang also dominates Cars and Caffeine

The last event I went to, there was 10-12 Mustangs of all different generations and there was even Challengers and Chargers... Not a single Camaro.

I was leaning a little more to the performance side. All we hear is Camaro is faster, but the Mustang has such a good foundation to mod upon, and a very rich aftermarket, that for the guys that are serious about performance, the Mustang is a go to platform that flat out kicks the Camaro's behind.

This car is my daily driver. It's nearly as economical as the Honda Accord it replaced, is quick enough not to be embarrasing, and looks better than 99% of what I see on the road. In the end I got a car with all the amenities (heated/cooled leather, 8" display, fantastic stereo) for under $28k that turns heads every time I drive it.

I understand that, which is why I said it's the majority of drivers I see in the EB (and V6 for that matter). I know other demographics drive them, but I see a lot of women in them and I know zero women who care about horsepower (I know they do exist), and I see a lot of younger guys in them. It's always been that way since I started paying attention in the early 90's. I would bet at least 25 cents that I'm correct...maybe even 26! My sister had an 08 V6 and she thought it was plenty powerful, and she just bought one of those 300hp Camry's and thinks it's plenty powerful. She likes sporty vehicles, but a V8 is never a consideration for her.

I had a 12 year old V6 Camaro in the late 90's. I looked at a V6 Roush Mustang in 2000 but the insurance was insane for a 20 year old on it and a GT wasn't even a consideration. I ended up with a Grand Prix and even that cost me 350/month for coverage. I know a lot of the young guys are turbo heads and that's cool, but I believe my own anecdotal statistics would prove to be accurate in a real study. My whole thing was, to say the majority of pony car enthusiasts prefer an ecoboost is very inaccurate. There are drivers of pony cars, and there are enthusiasts, and they aren't mutually exclusive (probably used that term incorrectly, but..you get the idea).

Well put. In my eyes, when you develop a platform as versatile as the S550, you wring it out to the last drip and get as much out of it as you can. Ford doesn't feel that way.

I agree that this platform is very verstile, I disagree that Ford is banking on V8’s. A few years from now there will be an electric AWD Mustang, a eco 4 and eco 6 cyl cars. We see it with the Ford GT. The eco 6 will be the top internal combustion engine with possibly the V8 only in the special editions and I say that’s only a possibility. This may happen in time for the Mustangs 60th anniversary. I’m not saying this because I have a V6 and love it. I’m saying it because the future is coming no matter how much some wish it won’t. I for one would buy an AWD Mustang, I’d also buy a hybrid or electric one. As long as it fills the need for an affordable sporty car that feels right, has the right proportions and handles well- and of course the styling is important, I’ll want one.

Heh, some of us were in high school when the Fox bodies were just starting to hit their stride in the late '80s. We're bald and have progressive lenses too.

I think something like this 1970's inspired is a step in the right direction.

I realize everyone has different tastes, but I personally think that would be a step in the wrong direction. Dodge has that design language and for me that's enough.

I love the S550 design featuring modern styling with heritage cues versus the other way around.

I don't think there's going to be a 7gen camaro not making enough money. But if there is then they need to break with the past and come up with a all new and modern design. Retro is dead in the pony car world.

I think they could come up with a clean sheet design that got cues from the 2nd-gen, much like the S550 pulled things from the past and still was modern.....

The Buick Avista show car was Alpha chassis-based IIRC, and shows what could have been for Camaro with some '70-'73 cues added. Agreed that the above rendering in red isn't the greatest, but still is better than the '19 monstrosity.

Back to Avista: the headlights could stay, make the grille 'mouth' eggcrate and more squared off on the ends, lose the fender vent and side chrome, revise the rear quarter window (smaller or eliminated), round taillights. Bam, modern with retro cues in small doses.
