Posted this before.. Originally thought it was my BOV, then my cats.. I went to get my cats deleted and due to some issues (I ordered the 3" connect from MAK), my garage quoted me 4 HOURS of labor of a cat delete install. You best believe I ain't paying 4 hours of labour for a cat delete.

So until I find another shop to get it done from.. I need some help from you guys to hopefully identify the noise. My pockets aren't deep enough where I can leave it at the shop for them to find unfortunately.

I still think the sound is coming from the bottom of the car but my mechanic told me that its most likely coming from the IM or its a vac leak somewhere.

So, as a recap:

This sound ONLY happens if the car is warm and I drive it around somewhere, can be just on my street or on my driveway. It gets louder upon shutoff if I drove it for a while. The sound ONLY occurs when I turn my car off.. However I do think their is a higher pitched exhaust sound that I THINK i can hear when I'm idling.

I really need some sort of suggestions.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ I checked this clusterfuck of hoses in the middle, everything seems snug.. Can't really pinpoint the noise.. Seems to be coming from underneath there. Is there a line or something that could be loose down there??

Please keep in mind, I am not the most mechanically skilled but I am learning and can do things with a little bit of guidance.

Not sure if this is relevant but this sound started happening immeditealy after I did a smoke test to check for leak.. At the time being the smoke was only seeping from my BOV which is now fixed.

Someone please help me out or point me in the right direction.. I will literally mail a bottle of some nice whisky to ya if I can figure out TF is going on!

Turn AC off and try again. Same result?

Unplug evaporate solenoid and try again?
Be careful if this is from debris stuck in evap valve, don’t want to suck anything into intake.

No difference with AC, whether on or off.

I can confirm this is coming from the bottom of my car.. Not the top. It is MUCH louder underneath my car.. Could it be my cat like I originally suspected??

Thoughts?

Is 4hrs that far out of the realm for installing cat deletes? I feel I would have quoted about the same..

4 Hours for a shop install on a lift... I still think that's too much.
It was 4 hours ontop of the 1 hour they took to get my exhaust/old cats off. So 5 hours of labor.
I got quoted 600$ or 6 hours to install headers. Telling me it only takes another hour more for headers?? Lol

Installing headers doesn't involve cutting, grinding, fitting and welding... Just saying, 4hrs isn't that far out of the realm.

Not going to argue.. Got a quote from another place for 2 hrs which seems reasonable.

Either way.. Any idea what that sound could be?

OH MAN, this still sucks!

Not ac, not evap, not BOV, louder under the car than above. Happens when warm or hot.

Narrows it down.

2 hours is reasonable. AS long as there are no surprises once they figure into it.

I’ll ask Lou who to use for this... who he trusts.

I went to get my cat deletes installed today and my exhaust guy said that he doesnt think that he can weld the flange on without possibly having leaks, and he won't remove the driver side manifold to get a better angle on it. In other news, I went to a nearby shop and am just getting my cats gutted as we speak.

Hopefully it is your cats OP.

I hope so too, IMO keep the gutted cats only temp, big hollow gutted cats can't be too good for the flow. I think it'll prob drone as well because it will be echoing.
But let me know how they are, I found a good shop to do them from and I will be there first thing tomorrow morning to get it done :)

They sound okay to me on the drive home, not much different at all really. But I'll try to get outside to hear it and let you know. If it drones I'll probably just add in a magnaflow 12468 or a borla resonator and call it a day. I personally was doing it just to decrease the risk of engine damage from failing cats. So as long as it isn't super unpleasant I'm fine with it.

edit: if it does turn out to be your cats, make sure to get some pictures!

If you hold the brake pedal down when you shut the car off, does it change the duration or tune of the noise?
I'll check this tomorrow and let you know.
Usually just put the parking brake on but I'll try the brake pedal and shutting it off

This sound started happening immediately after I got a smoke test done.. Where do they pump the smoke in from? Maybe that is where its leaking from because it is not properly sealed? Can someone point me to where it would be pumped in from.

Easiest spot is the brake booster line. You should try what F1scamp suggested, see if the sound changes with holding the brake pedal, or pumping it.
