Everyone discusses upgrading tire sizes, treadwear concerns, best optimal brand tire for their region, summer vs all season, drag race, road race or auto-x tires, etc. etc etc....
But I have not seen any “tire tech” regarding tire side wall comparisons or “performance”.
When buying any brand/size of replacement tire, should’nt the sidewall properties (flexibility & strength) be a consideration and just as important to safety?
Is there such a guide to compare sidewall strength when buying new tires? Not looking at the sidewall height or profile figures, I mean like actual performance to the stock sidewall that was supposedly “matched” to the vehicle’s handling, safety and performance based on body and chassis design.
I’ve read threads proclaiming Brand-X tire is superior to Brand-Y, but then I see later postings of folks who bought said tires and complaining of the vehicle feeling soft when hitting up curves/turns aggressively or when over taking other vehicles on the highway at speed and merging back into a lane that the rear swings or feels like mush... isn’t that all because of the possibility that the sidewall is too compliant (soft?) versus the chosen sidewall in stock form?
