I agree with others that have said you just like to argue sometimes for the sake of it. It has happened plenty in other threads.

If I see bullshit, I say something. You call it arguing maybe because you also don’t like to be disagreed with? I call it a debate on a public forum. If people want to post their opinions and not potentially see a reply that they don’t agree with, they should start their own blog and lock it down.

What am I missing about the Carrera T? The 0-60 is 1s slower than our cars. Other than it being a Porsche .. what’s the allure?

I think a used Porsche is where it’s at. I fear the depreciation on new ones. Certain models are pretty reliable, too.

Where do you see a second difference? From what I've seen/read they seem like a dead heat and it would come to who can launch/shift better.

On Porsche’s site the stats say 4.3 for 0-60. Not quite a second, I was living in dreamland writing a quick post and forgetting my fat gt350 is not a mid 3s car.

A little embarrassed, I forgot you have an R so it is roughly tied with my regular GT350. Sorry for the oversight as I get what you are saying now.

Edit: And I agree, a .5 second or a bit more is still significant.

The driving experience. Porsche's have never been about straight line performance. They do well there but that is not their emphasis. Their build quality is stellar as well.

Generally true, yes, but they certainly are not immune from issues of their own. No manufacturer is. Anyone buying a Porsche thinking it's going to have the reliability of a Lexus may be in for a shock.

Ignoring for a moment the issues Porsche had with the M96 engines (like mine), Porsche has had other, more recent issues as well. Brittle coolant pipes on the first-generation Cayennes... 991 GT3 engine failures... Cayman GT4 front suspension failures (collapsing shock towers)... and just a few weeks ago, a 2018 Cayman GTS at a local PCA track event I was attending had a complete front suspension failure, just as he was rolling out of his garage for a second track session. If the failure had happened five minutes later, the damage (and his potential injuries) could have been catastrophic.

The point is simply that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. (But the grass on my side is, in my opinion, a much better value proposition.) :cheers:

I agree - Now that it has diverged from the original train wreck, it’s more interesting. Comparing the differences is fun - it does sound like the same conclusion that led many people to buy the 350, though. Fun bang for the buck, the 350 wins. Refinement while retaining an excellent driving experience (in some cases at the expense of raw power), the Porsche is an excellent choice. I’ve seen a lot of P cars (not as much GT cars!) valued at 40% original price just 5-6 years later, though. This might be where I draw the line.

So... I just went back to the Porsche dealer near me where I test drove the 718 GTS and took a look at a Carrera, which I understand has the same engine as the Carrera T.


And I actually preferred the 718? I thought the turbos on the Carrera muffled the exhaust too much, and took away some of that high end scream present on non-turbo flat 6s. The roughness/boxer sound of the 718 gave it more character. I feel like I'm saying heinous, sacrilege things here lol.

I would love to have a 718 GTS but I can’t fit well in it... Shoulders are a tough fit.
