I have a front pair of PP shocks ready to go on the car from another member here which I got to replace my now creaky base GT shocks.

Figure while I’m in there I should knock out two birds with one stone and order some springs from Steeda, especially if there’s a 4th of July sale or something. Which ones do I need to look into that aren’t going to lower me too much, but provide a good street ride, it’s bad out here on the IL roads so I don’t want to also be looking at chiropractors. I’ll likely be going with Steeda non adjustable shocks later so ideally I’d like to match up to those when I switch out, but that won’t be for a while.

Also while I’m doing all the work is there anything that I could do like preventative maintenance so I don’t get creaky shocks again...

How many miles on your ride csmaan12?
I deal with these same crap chicagoland roads and thats whats been keeping me from changing mine out. If I did I'd go Steeda minimum drop springs

I’m just shy of 34k miles. They started creaking like a month or two ago pretty badly. Sound like a broken mattress or creaky door. I’ve had a lowered car before and it ruined the ride completely but that’s because I got super aggressive springs lol, not trying to do that again.

Wow, that’s surprising that that’s happening at 34k
I’m at 30k and would expect 50k out of stock suspension
I did the super aggressive eibach springs on my 2001 gt and it made it a lot less enjoyable as a daily driver for sure, that’s why I’ve been gun shy to do anything

Eibachs are aggressive as it seems on these cars. I had H&R on my old car and those were as good as having concrete for springs. Fun ride but absolutely not for street use. I’m leaning Steeda from al the good things I’ve heard vs the usual choice like Eibach.

ChitownStang you still need a ride in mine. Most have been surprised at how well it rides.

BmacIL you have been working on and adjusting the suspension on your GT for over 3 years now so you had better have it dialed in by now ... so I should get to ride that GT too ........

I think that I have just about finished with the PP stuff ...

Hi guys,

I think I may have the same issue from these Chicago area roads.

It seems to only happen (as I notice) when I pull out of the garage. There's a little drop off at the lip of the front garage. When I go over that there's a creak or groan.

Is this the front shocks making the noise? If I get it fixed at the dealer (using the stock replacement shock) will it come back? I'd rather not go aftermarket.

If these shocks are known for these issues, could I use the '18 shock? These have been redesigned for the 18-19 cars.

Thanks!

Could be, if you have someone to help you out try to have a buddy imitate the motion on the car while its on jack stands, and use your hands to feel the shocks.

With mine if I just grab the spring on the front shock, and just wiggle/shake it up pretty good, the creaking can be heard, don't even need a second person for that.

I'd honestly argue and say the aftermarket variants and PP shocks are better than the base GT shocks. I'll find out soon enough for the PP ones, but I do believe they are a much better solution than the base ones which are made of cardboard apparently. I wouldn't hesitate going aftermarket unless you have a ton of warranty left.
