Questions From a Potential Owner

Hello All,

Was wondering if you guys could possibly answer some questions I have regarding ordering a new GT350. I was thinking I'd visit a dealer soon and maybe get an allocation. Here are my questions:

1. Is the 2019 GT350 confirmed? Will it receive any sort of refresh?

2. If I place an order for my build (say a 2018), how long should I expect it to take until delivery?

3. Are dealers offering prices below MSRP on these cars yet, or can I expect to pay more than MSRP?

4. A local dealer has offered to let me test drive one of their GT350s. I would feel bad ringing out the engine if it doesn't have many miles. Do these cars require a break-in?

1. It is a safe bet that it is confirmed. I believe it is official as it could get.

2. It depends. I waited for my R for about a year and a half. A non R will be much shorter.

3. MSRP is about normal now. My dealer has a white with blue stripes and a leadfoot grey with black stripes coming (in the build process now). Let me know if you are interested. MSRP probably negotiated down a bit from there. Located in central florida.

4. Wow. Most dealers won't let people test drive. I didn't test drive mine and don't regret a min of it. It is everything you see on YouTube or other reviews. As for the break in, yes, the manual dictates a break in period. This car really shouldn't be beat on until break in is complete. Others will disagree I'm sure.

1. Agree with Tomster; indicators are pointing in that direction.

2. 2018 "balance out" is pretty much taking place now, so chances of getting in on an open allocation are pretty narrow. Ford will build '18s until early June, then switch over to '19s at that point. If the GT350 doesn't continue, I'd expect that last of the '18s to hit dealerships in June through early July.

3. I bought my standard GT350 back in Nov. 2016 and paid $1,500 under MSRP. I've seen mention here and elsewhere since of even deeper discounts under MSRP. Based on that, it should be easy to get MSRP or below on a standard GT350. R models, on the other hand, seem to be running over MSRP still - with the occasional unicorn of a deal at MSRP.

4. Would be surprised if they let you drive a new car - most of the test drives I've heard of have been with used cars. Ford recommends a 200 mile break-in process.

1. What Tom said. There's a video of a Ford Exec at a conference saying the 2019 GT350 will be produced. So yeah, I'd take that as a strong "yes".

2. This is completely dependent on you Dealers allocation and whether they have one ready to be be accepted for build. For example, I ordered my R almost 8 months ago, while Mulligan ordered his about 2 months ago... and we are now both on the exact same track to have our cars built on Tuesday next week. Difference was, my dealer had an allocation but it was not ready to be accepted by Ford until recently. I also had a GT350 order in 1.5 years ago, and that build took about 4 months because the dealer didn't have an immediate slot at the factory. So to answer, it can vary tremendously.

3. You should have no problem getting MSRP right now, if not under. You just have to be willing to shop around and do you research! I ended up paying $2K under msrp back in May 2017, but it took a lot of patience. On the flip side of that, I know a guy that paid $2K over several months later because it was the only decent car (without issues) in the color he wanted within 700+ miles.

4. If you test drive, be prepared to want to buy it! But to answer your question, I did what I would consider a proper break-in on my GT350, and it doesn't burn oil and ran strong.

2. Depends on the dealership. Gotta ask em. I made a $1000 refundable deposit that went towards my down payment.

Buying CPO - is it risky? How good is Ford's certified coverage for these performance cars? I'd likely go with a 2017+ since they all have the track pack. I autocross regularly, and want the powertrain to be completely covered in case something breaks.

Good question...if the dealership service department has good reviews, and if you can get some references from other owners about the dealership, then I would feel better about it. In the end, a CPO status is determined by a checklist, but you never know how thorough the dealership will be. Personally, I would rather buy from a private party, because you will save money (you're buying the car essentially wholesale.)
Service records from the prior owner, if available, will tell the tale (I am meticulous in documenting everything service-related on my car, even though I don't expect to sell it.) I would still ask to have a pre-purchase inspection done by a reputable shop, preferably with experience in high-performance Mustangs.

I managed to snag a deal for a 17 GT350 for ~$400 below dealer invoice. Didn't pull the trigger because insurance turned out to be too expensive at that moment. You should have no problem finding a GT350 for several thousand below sticker, minimum.

IMO to get a great deal look for dealers located far away from urban areas, they are more willing to deal on GT350s since most of their customer base are after trucks.

If getting a 2017 is on the table, I'd look for a new one instead of a pre-owned/CPO. I got my new 2017 last week for almost $5k UNDER sticker last week. For me, I wanted a 2017 specifically for Avalanche Gray.

If it doesn't have to be 2019 and there is no 2018+ color you're attached to, buying a 2017 (new) is a no brainer.

No matter what you do, you're going to love the car. :cheers:
