You know if you put the lever in "Sport" mode it holds the gears until you hit the paddle shifter. Of course when slowing down it will be forced to drop the gears if you don't.

no it doesn't. i drive mine in sport and it shifts all by itself.

If you put it in Sport with the shifter itself, and you then use the paddles...it will no longer shift for you, it will hold the gear. If you put it in Sport and don't touch the paddles it will shift the entire time.

At least my 15 does. I cant speak for the 18

Actually the 18 also does both.

Simply put it in S and it shifts by itself.

Put it in S and use either of the paddles and it stays in the selected gear until either paddle is used again to select a different gear to hold, the upshift paddle is held for a couple of seconds to go back to automatic, or you slow "a lot" in which case it will downshift but stay in that gear until you use a paddle to shift.

In D the paddle will select a gear but it only stays in that gear for about 3 seconds UNLESS you are coasting with no throttle input such as using it for engine braking. Then it will hold the gear until you apply throttle.

With the shifter in S and drive modes in sport + or track modes (maybe drag mode also) you can also start in 2nd gear. I base model MAY allow a 2nd gear start in its sport mode by two quick taps on the TC button but I don't know Simply come to a complete stop and the trans will select 1st. Use the upshift paddle to select 2nd.

you left out the part where you have to be using the paddles for it to work like this.. s mode with no paddle action shifts on it's own

FYI the bolded portion is not in the latest version of the manual. Also from my experience the new version of the manual without the bolded portion is correct. That is it doesn't shift. ;)

I initially was simply trying to remind some that the select shift function is available when the lever is in sport mode. I didn't realize I had to hold a class on how to use it.

Out of 95 posts in this thread only 25 were from owners of a 2018 A10.
It's quite hard to learn anything about their experiences with all the usual manual gear gobshite going on.

Welcome to the fourm. People on here have been crapping on the A6 for years. If you don’t like people saying the front end on the 18 is not better than everything else just wait for the weekly transmission threads (there are maybe 5-6 going on right now) :lol:

After 65 miles, 40 driven by me (65 on the clock), I love the A10.

No, not a very large sample but compared to shifting the previously owned Shelby, I am enjoying the A10. Don't get me wrong, rolling the gears in the Shelby was awesome.

Lets see after I get a few more miles on the clock and start do drive it like I stole it.

I will report back then.

I really like the A10. It is super fast in upshifts and rev matches really well on the downshifts. I have driven a couple of Audi's with their DCT and though it is a really nice unit, it does not do so well in stop and go driving. It feels clunky and not as smooth in shifts at slow speeds.

The wife's A7 is very clunky and jerky driving at slow speeds. I have yet to experience anything like that with the A10.

My only other experience with Ford paddle shifters was on my wife's previous car, a 2013 Taurus SHO. It had paddle shifters, but they were for show only. That system sucked. Would not down shift when you wanted. It would up shift way too soon with out pulling on a paddle.

The paddle shifters on the Mustang are as close to using a stick that I have ever experienced. Night and day difference from the SHO.

Forces downshifts when slowing? As in regardless of paddle use (or not), shifter position and drive mode, and completely outside your control?

Why wouldn't (couldn't?) the torque converter unlock first, in which case it shouldn't matter what gear the transmission was in because it'd be like being at a full stop in 1st or perhaps 2nd. Unless, of course, the TC is always held in locked-up condition in the higher gears (which doesn't sound like a good thing at least at first glance).

I'm not going to check your numbers or look any deeper into them than to ask if you know how many of the 70 were from people with A6 or (IIRC) AOD experiences to relate?

Let me also suggest that limiting the participation here would probably limit the variety of questions, answers, and useful comments. Should that be the case, I guess it is easier to learn a little when there's a little less there to be learned.

Is this true for downshifting as well as upshifting? That is, will it downshift on its own if it doesn't think you're paying enough attention or will it assume that you really do know what you're doing and leave this up to you as well?
