Until you can tell me exactly how many 6th gen mustangs have been sold to the public vs how many 6th camaros you're argument is pathetic.

As it stands, more people chose to purchase the mustang than the camaro...making it a better car for more people. All of you're rebuttals against this are based off of your personal opinion of you wanting the faster car. With sales dipping down in to the high $2K range for the camaro, if I were a camaro fan I would be very worried.

Looks like the mustang has outsold the Camaro retail sales every year to me.

Closer? The mustang sold almost 25k more cars (retail) at the intro of the 6th gen than the Camaro did at the intro of its 6th gen. It took to the end of the mustangs third model year (right before a refresh) for the Camaro to finally catch up. Unless the Camaro makes some major changes this year, it’s not going to look pretty for the Camaro.

That is completely incorrect. A skilled driver in a PP1 GT is going to own an unskilled driver in a 1LE on any track. Driver mod is the most important one. That 3 second difference only means something with a professional driver at the wheel. I have have seen Z06 drivers get killed by Miatas at autox.

Vettes and mustangs/camaros cost about the same for insurance

Insurance laws and premiums vary from state to state. Unfortunately I live in the state that has the worst laws and premiums. When I bought my car in January 2017, I knew I was getting a convertible performance car and narrowed it down to

1. Camaro SS vert
2. Camaro ZL1 vert
3. Corvette Grand Sport vert
4. Corvette Z06 vert

Now, aside from the fact that I was cross-shopping Vettes and Camaros, which some here have said never happens, my decision was made for me. Insurance for the SS Vert was obscene. Insurance for the other three was criminal. So I have the SS Vert. There is actually a huge difference in what I am paying for my SS and what I would've had to pay for a ZL1. And I have a clean record.

For the record, I like Mustangs, even though I am a Camaro owner. This isn't my first post here. This is also my first Camaro, compared to four Mustangs. I don't expect to be a "troll", but I'm sure I will push back on any Camaro bashing that comes off as irrational or overstated (can't see out of it. ), but I'll try to keep it friendly and factual.

Just chiming in on the sales vs performance discussion here. For any buyer, there are multiple factors to consider when making a purchase. A series of trade-offs.

Mustang is a much better alternative if you are a golfer. Two bags fit in the trunk. I am a golfer. My bag will fit in the trunk (top up) but I have a hell of a time getting it through the weird shaped opening. Since the rear seats don't fold down on the convertible, that's the only way I can get them in the trunk. Fact is, though, I usually go to the golf course with the top down and my bag(s) on the rear seat. As irrritating as it is to get the bag in the trunk, I would not trade the performance of the car or the functionality of the power top for lesser performance and a better trunk.

Pasting here my honest assessment of Mustang / Camaro / Challenger / Charger that I posted in a similar thread in Camaro6....

Appearance:Eye of the beholder. My eye says Camaro, Mustang, Charger, Challenger. Your order may be different
Straight Line Performance: Camaro, Hellcat, Mustang
Handling, normal drive: Camaro, Mustang, Charger + Challenger
Handling, spirited driving: Camaro, Mustang, a whole bunch of other cars, Charger + Challenger
Seating, driver: Tie. Mustang wins for general comfort, Camaro wins for keeping me planted
Seating, frt pass: Charger + Challenger, Mustang, Camaro
Seating Rear:Charger + Challenger, Mustang, Camaro
Trunk:Charger + Challenger, Mustang, Camaro
Fuel Economy: Camaro, Mustang, Charger + Challenger
Sound: Mustang (especially GT350), Camaro, Charger + Challenger
Feature Content: Camaro, Charger + Challenger, Mustang (may move up for '18)

That's pretty much in order of priority for me.

One other thing, specific to my only wanting a convertible. Dodge products don't offer a convertible. The Camaro convertible has a power top that operates up to 30 mph, up and down, with a hard tonneau. Mustang convertible isn't even close to that level of functionality.

used doesnt come with a full warranty, and pretty sure a regular c7 warranty doesn't cover stuff breaking on a track like a 1le. and personally preference i never buy cars like this used, there is no way to know the previous owner did to it or how they beat on it

I picked up a used C7 Z51 with magride, PDR, etc for $47K. Car was 11 months old and had 2K miles and was mint. It came with the full balance of the factory warranty 25 months bumper to bumper, 4 years+ powertrain. GM does warranty the car for track use as long as you follow the maintenance schedule (which is essentially same as Camaro).

The difference is 13 months after I bought my car it is worth $45-46K at dealer trade in (Ford dealer offered me $45.5K).

A new Camaro 1LE will be worth about 20-25% less than you pay for it after one year. Maybe less. I like the 1LE but they depreciate far worse than a Corvette. It scares me from buying one. Used ones also scare me though as, unlike the Corvette, they are usually bought by younger people and tracked/beat on.
