Driver side rear footwell SOAKED!

Just a copy/paste of my post in the Daily Chat Topic thread about this issue.

Well at the moment of writing this morning I thought it wasn't that bad as we eventually figured out... that said...

Around the drivers-seat left side frame I had a couple soaking wet spots, and noticed it came from the door. So we removed the door panel and indeed the plastic door-seal cover was leaking, the silicone came loose at one spot.
So we repaired that and vacuum dried the carpet only to find out it wasn't drying enough. Next step, we removed the seat, lifted the carpet and noticed a small swimming pool from the pedal area to the back-seat.
The carpet was soaked on the bottom side and the vacuum dryer wasn't enough to dry the carpet out.

Next week we will remove the seats again and middle console to take out the carpet completely, let it dry in the paint booth oven and put it back the next day or so.

They agreed to file a claim to Ford but said 9 out 10 they will not approve it since my warranty is gone, even if I had extended warranty it wouldn't be covered... only the first 2 years covers this type of issues.
So in total it's gonna cost me around 320€ to 400€ I think in working hours... Anyway, for a 2.5 year old car, this really sucks and shouldn't be happening!!! :tsk:

PS: While I was there I had my 4th set of puddle lights installed, this time around I finally had the latest revision!!! Yet pricier that on the inter-webs... 42.5€ excl. VAT per light, uhum!

Either Ford didnt bother to take the carpet out to dry it properly, or they have spent 3 weeks dicking around and haven’t fixed the problem.

I was advised to put newspapers in it at night and replace them everyday, at-least for now.

I'd guess not fixed. They had a couple of goes with mine (leaky windscreen seal) before they were successful. You only need a tiny gap for the rain to get in after all.

So you spend 40k on a Mustang and they tell you to line the floor with newspaper. What a fucking joke.

In my current situation of having to go back next week and oven dry the carpet yes, as a temporary solution to not make it worse. The easiest way would have been to leave it there and pick it in a few day's. But it's my daily, need it and I'm driving with hand controls as break/gas so finding a loaner is out of the question, you can't find them.

After another thorough check this morning - there is definitely still water within the foam backing. Even looking at the underside of the floor mats shows that there is still water present. Give it a press and you can hear the water squelching in the foam.

Well, turns out they didn't take the carpet out :rant: shocked, bearing in mind they had it for a grand total of 23 days :doh: Anyway, I expressed my disappointment.

With rain due tomorrow, I will be keeping a close eye for leaks. As much as I would like to say I'm confident they fixed the issue, I can't right now - although there is less water in there than there was to begin with.

There was an additional piece of rubber trim ordered - passenger side where the top of the window meets the rubber strip - slight split apparently. That's due in next week so I'll be dropping it off again to have that fitted & the carpet out this time & dried properly. Also getting them to have another look at one of my passenger side speakers - they couldn't find the buzzing/rattle I reported even though I did immediately after getting in the car yesterday.

Promised me a courtesy car this time as well.

Not usually one to make formal complaints but I will be after all this I think, caused me a lot of stress.

Some things you may well have to take the bull by the horns so to speak and do it yourself..!
I think i would be taking the carpet and foam out and leaving it in the airing cupboard for a few days at least.. Or demand some new carpet

Also that way, with a bare floor you will see straight away if the issue has been solved.. Drive around for a few days with some newspaper, it will soon soak up any water and show where its coming from.. although dont get confused with whats off yr shoes..

That's sucks Kristian! Can you find out if they have checked the plastic seal inside the door? That's where we think my leak came from. Next week from thursday until the next week wednesday ill be driving around without carpet, middle console and just two seats while the carpet dries out. This will be the ideal moment to keep an eye out for more leaks...

I informed if I could put it under my so called full coverage insurance, but my franchise is still 650€ so it's a no go either!

Pete makes a good point though. Ask (or more likely DEMAND) new carpets. That way, if the new ones get wet there's no argument as to whether its water pre-fix.

Thanks for this tip guys, i can make a pretty good case i think for nice new carpets. May give them a call this afternoon, just need to mentally prepare what i will say!

word of advise, don't call them a cun7 :lol::lol: (as much as you may want to)


you've got a good case for new carpets, and "a little extra" for the failures.

Gutting to hear it still isn't fixed, sounds like ford just enjoyed having the car there.

I used to have a rattle it wasn't actually from my speakers one of the blue retaining clips for the window control panel had broken whilst driving (eff knows how, and part of it was rattling around. Found it when I removed them to be carbon dipped.

There is a way for said broken clips to get past the sound deadening and into the door card, which is what you maybe hearing. Ask them to remove the door card and see. :amen:

I have this type of rattle as well when I'm driving in The Netherlands, since they have awesome smooth and quiet roads where you can actually hear the sounds coming from the car. In Belgium it's just humpy bumpy!
