think Big_G had this same issue (sorry i've been in dubai so haven't been able to get to this thread!)
Yea I pm'd Graham & he gave me his account, which I printed & gave to ford!

Update from me;

Ford Guildford had the car all day yesterday & phoned close to 5pm to ask if the could keep the car longer - no surprise there!

I asked about progress but I don't think they had done too much tbh. A quick mention of the oil life warning; "Ford technical advise us that if we are happy with the oil level, then it's ok to reset the indicator". He did also imply that the life is in someway tied to usage, rather than just age/mileage.

Will post any updates on the water problem as I get them.

I did receive a call last night on my way home...

They asked again if they could keep the car overnight, as they had been trying, but failed to find the source of the leak.

Happy that they have started looking at it. Fingers crossed that they find something today. Part of me was hoping they would say that they will most likely need the car in for X days to be able to find the issue, resolve it and properly dry out the carpets. I'm not taking it back until I'm satisfied they have done at least that.

Will no doubt call them for an update today & see how they are getting on...

I assume they have looked for the missing firewall grommet right?
Well I can only hope so. They just called me again saying that they are going to progress with taking the roof lining out :eyebulge:

When I dropped the car off, I handed them a printout I made containing all the quotes from this forum that hinted at the possible causes & I checked they had read it all - which they have.

Apparently, as it's going through Ford warranty, they have to check what they are being told to. Having not found the source of the leak so far, they now suspect a possible fault in the seal around the windscreen or "a potential body shop issue" depending on what they find.

I reassured them that I'm not in any rush to get it back so they should take all the time they need! The chap I spoke to on the phone was concerned that I needed the car back, even though I have said a couple of times I'm in no rush.

As uncomfortable as it is right now, I have to put my trust in them & leave them to it. If it takes 3 weeks, I don't care as long as they sort it.

I admire your patience. I realise you aren't in the same postition, but knowing what 3 weeks of (non)motoring will cost me in finance, insurance and tax on my MY18 when it arrives, I would be livid. :frusty:

Sounds like they're taking it seriously though.

I'm a very patient guy but that doesn't mean I'm full of anxiety at the same time

Yea, doing a thorough job is what I'm most concerned about - they can faff around as long as they like as long as they do it all by the book & don't rush it.

I'm fortunate in that my girlfriend owns a car and doesn't need it for work, so I can get about :)

I had a Superb & found water lying on the rubber mat in passenger footwell after heavy rain parked nose downhill, the carpets did not get wet. Dealer said they thought it was a screen leak so they got a screen spcialist in. After about a week told me not screen and investigating further. I went offshore for two weeks so their loan car sat in my garage, they were OK with that.
I suspect they were using it as a fall back job. On return they said its sorted & had replaced the carpets, why as they did not get wet unless during their investigations? I never found out the source but it was fixed.

Morning all...update:

Ford called first thing this morning with good news - they have found the source of the leak. I didn't have time to have a long conversation about it, but from what I recall, it was "under the upholstery" close to the front, which does make sense based on the photo here. They did check the windscreen as well which was ok.

Anyway, they said they are sending it down to the body shop today to get it sorted. Does mean a technician has to drive my car to the body shop which is about 15 miles away. Better be damn careful :paddle:

Will keep you posted.

That's good news; not far from the firewall plug. Bit close to the fuse box; have a good look around the back of there when you get it back.

Update:

I decided to call as I hadn't heard anything since Friday morning.

Apparently the car is still at the body shop. The girl on the phone used the words "we found a split in the seam" but couldn't elaborate, I gathered that the technician she needed to speak to was on another line. I asked for more detail on the location of the seam & an update on timescales.

Was promised a call back this afternoon.

Be nice to be able to pick it up at the weekend...

Split in the seam!!!! Sounds like you need to get a full roll cage installed just in case the bodyshell seam welds all fail.

As promised - I got my call back. +1 brownie point for Think Ford Guildford :ford:

The problem area is "in the A pillar, not with the windscreen seal, but in the pillar". Happy days, I'm pleased they have pinpointed it to be fair.

Less happy about the fact that the body shop "didn't have an update for them today, but should have tomorrow". Smacks of - we haven't got around to it yet.
Didn't kick up a fuss because I'm not in a rush & I want them to do it properly, but still...grrrr

Expecting another call back tomorrow.

Just having this conversation in the office. It's a pretty serious statement to say that there is a split/problem in the a pillar and body shop work is required. I didn't make a fuss or inquire more on the phone but I will be pressuring them for a full & detailed write up, to give myself peace of mind at least...
