Ask for progress photos. Especially of the split seam before work is carried out
Yea, was thinking exactly that. Will give them a call back shortly and ask.

Just having this conversation in the office. It's a pretty serious statement to say that there is a split/problem in the a pillar and body shop work is required. I didn't make a fuss or inquire more on the phone but I will be pressuring them for a full & detailed write up, to give myself peace of mind at least...
and a full detail after!

well its pretty major work to strip the interior if its an inner pillar weld and its a pillar respray if its an outer piller weld, i'd assume its interior though as there's no paint crack? so thats at very least probably dash and pillar cover and roof lining out depending on where the crack is. grind out reweld grind back weld then seal and spray to re-protect it. not a 2 minute job and its pretty structural being on a pillar.

Sorry lads, a case of Chinese whispers here I think.

I had a longer conversation with the girl in the service dept I spoke to this morning. She seems pretty well informed. Not the same chap I was speaking to last week.

Assured me that its a seal behind the a pillar, not necessarily the pillar itself! As they don't have a body shop on site, any follow up work is done at a separate location, regardless of whether its body work or trim/seals etc. It means they can fully establish the problem.

Anxiety made me take 2 & 2 and make 55 :headbonk:

Follow up call with her tomorrow...

Can you do that maths on my bank balance ;)?

Glad it's less of an issue than first thought, and arguably an easier fix. But still, a hassle none the less. Hopefully detailed images allows us other owners to check. This thread has made me wary, my car war pretty foggy inside when I came back to it, however she lives in the garage (or car park) so usually never gets a chance to be swamped in water like you evil owners who don't drive yours and leave them outside ;)!

If you hadn't checked already, I'd check for dampness on the carpets. Obviously doesn't show when you have the rubber lined mats under your feet. I had no idea until I actually put my hand on the carpets and pressed down.

I'll certainly get the highlights added to the "S550 Issues" thread once I know all the definitive details.

She is really good, always knows what's going on and sorts any problems.

Frustratingly slow progress but progress nonetheless. Windscreen is due to be removed today - apparently they are waiting for someone to come in and do it  this is in order to re seal the windscreen and replace the faulty seams.

Current expectation is middle of next week to be finished with it. She couldn't say whether or not the carpet had been removed/dried yet but I guess that could add another couple of days to my wait.

I'm sure they would be doing this a lot faster had I taken one of their courtesy cars!

Probably take longer if you had a courtesy car, because, they're just gonna reclaim it ;)!

Well, the original offer from them was - you can rent a car for ÂŁ20 a day from such & such, bloody glad I didn't!

Going to throw a welcome home party I've decided, when I get it back.

May treat it to a dash cam - my bday in a couple of weeks...

or a roush axle back ;)!

Surprised they're making you pay, it's warranty work, they should be giving you a courtesy car, as it's "putting you out of your way"

(Mind you, that's if you didn't tell them about the missus' mini and your fiesta ;) )

Another frustratingly vague update again this afternoon.

It's still in the body shop being repaired apparently & might be ready by the end of the week.

Girl I spoke to wasn't sure if any of the other items had been looked at yet or not; buzzing speaker, oil life warning, clutch noise but is going to find out.

I explained that its going to be difficult for me to collect during the week and the weekend would be better so I'm hoping they will do what they can to get it to me by the weekend. Don't mind the wait but I hate not knowing what they hell they have been doing with it for the best part of 3 weeks

Well, it'll be ready mon/tues next week. A full 3 weeks after dropping it off. Ready for pickup Weds/Thurs with a bit of luck :)

I quizzed the girl on the phone re what has been happening & to be fair, they have done quite a bit;

Oil & filter change done under warranty, warning reset

Clutch release has been lubricated - it was making a faint grinding/scraping noise on lifting. Although she referred to it as the clutch switch

Windscreen being resealed today. I'm guessing it was taken apart last week & the carpet dried out this week, to be put back together now...

Anyway, happy that they have seen to it all & buzzing about getting back in it!

I have a feeling i may have had a similar issue - i didnt check for any dampness but as i put in another thread - had crazy steamy windows after having driven the car to work and leaving it for half an hour or so. Dampness inside may have been the culprit. Also i’m sure i heard water sloshing around when i was driving, not long after we had all that snow...

Will go out and check in a bit, full of wine and cheesecake right now lol
For the dampness you need to use the AC in winter times as it extracts moisture.
