My car came with the 12 speaker system and is a convertible. The bass was underwhelming to say the least. I replaced the 8" woofer with a Polk audio DVC unit. For around $70 and 15 minutes it was a decent upgrade. However certainly not anything LL Cool J would rap about.

I recently picked up a 2012 Frontier SV for a winter truck. I purposely bought a base model so I could mod the truck to my liking. I replaced the head unit and all the speakers but still need more bass. Now between the lift, bigger tires, audio upgrades, and armor I was already 2k over budget. also didn't have much room.

I did a little research and stumbled the Rockville RW10CA 10" 800 Watt Subwoofer for under $120 with wiring. Figured it was worth a shot. Let me tell you for the price the thing is very well constructed and hits hard. It even has speaker level inputs for an easy install. Not to mention a cool little remote knob.

If I were to do it over I would have just taken the oem sub box right out of the trunk and put this is the spare tire well. As a matter of fact I am considering adding one with the stock 8".

I am sure some of you high end audio guys have your nose in the air on this but

My trunk be shakin, vibratin and rattlin
Pumpin so loud, all the shorties be babblin
My right-hand man's here without the swing

Let’s see that fronty!! We have a 14 SV that’s used as our grocery getter and snow mobile- the thing is a beast! Did you install an amp when you replaced the door speakers?

MustangFrank I installed a JVC powered head unit, and I am running the door speakers off of that. It's a little tricky because the door and dash speakers are wired together. So at first my 6x9's were getting as much power as my tweeters and the system sounded tinny. For now my dash speakers are disconnected which sounds much better because the door speakers are getting all the power.

My next step will be to install a small amp to run the front 6x9's, hook up my dash speakers which I'll be able to control separately from the rear doors via the head unit.

Here she is, did about a 2" lift and 33's. Love the truck! Only things I don't like and I am sure you'll agree are the MPG and turning radius!

For a base vehicle. Is the only thing you have to do run is run a power cable to the battery and hook the sub into the high output wires of the rear speakers?

I might have to give this a shot then. The price seems right for a test. The basic system needs more base.

And here I am thinking the Shaker 1000 needs LESS bass - specifically, less boomy garbage bass coming from every single dang speaker thereby muddying everything else, which is precisely the wrong way to set up a car stereo system. But I digress... ;)

In my Nissan at least the addition of this sub allowed me to turn down the bass on the EQ, so everything sounds a little crisper.
