I converted from manual to auto and 10 months later regretted it and traded it back in for a manual.
Same here. I always found my self using the paddles, shifting "manually" and it just wasn't the same. It's nice to own both at the same time if possible for the best of both worlds.

If drag racing is a top priority the 10A is the way to go as was the 6R80.

I'm going with the auto mainly because it's a DD in SoCal. If it was a weekend car or somewhere without traffic I'd get the manual.
Maybe someday I'll pick up a GT350 or 500 for the weekends.

I am making the switch to the auto. I want to get back to drag racing, may daily the car, and I'm just tired of the mt-82. The clutch blew apart on mine after only 7k miles and even with the blow fish bracket and fluid changes it still locks me out of a gear from time to time. I have driven manuals my whole life and never had so many missed gears. It just seems like cable shift and direct connect shifters are more accurate. For me its time to try something different and I believe the 10spd was what it took to win me over.

So i plan on ordering a new 18 next month. I test drove a 6mt and a 10 speed back to back. I have always been a 6 speed person but holy shit the 10 speed hauls . I may convert. Anyone else converting from stick to the auto and why?

Im perfectly capable of rowing my own still I'm just really impressed for a stock auto mustang to be that quick
6 speed auto is fine, 10?

Drive it and learn, I did, and I enjoy it.

The owners manual says the A10 takes a few hundred miles to calibrate to your driving style, so the hunting people report on testers may in part be that. I can’t quote it exactly but to paraphrase ‘it will be a little wired at first’.

As great as any auto is, if you enjoy shifting, you’ll gravitate to a manual. If a DD in traffic, could see the A10 appeal. Then again if I was commuting in stop and go, I would be driving a fuel efficient 4 banger and have the GT (manual) for fun driving.

I've driven the A10 twice now while looking at convertibles and options.

Gear hunting is definitely happening in sport/track mode versus normal mode.

Also these are adaptive so the cars I've been testing only had 20 miles on the clock and had no idea my driving habits.

I am sure the A10 would settle down over several hundred miles.

I haven't driven the 10 speed in the Mustang yet but I can see the appeal of the 10 speed after driving a 10 speed Camaro ZL1 back to back with the manual version. The 10 speed simply felt way faster not only because of the shift speeds but also because the gears can be shorter since you have 10 of them. It was similar to the GT-R experience where the super short gearing rips your head off. Still, to me manuals are more engaging and fun, primarily when you're not going fast and just cruising around, where the auto will be a bore.

If the gear hunting was annoying on the test drive it will likely become more annoying having to live with it.
I’d wait and make sure from other owners the transmission definitively adapts and alleviates the hunting (not just hearsay) before pulling the trigger.

Nothing to learn here. I gave it a chance, believe me, I just couldn’t get into the slow responding paddles.

Seems to be a lot of Die hard manual fans on here . I will simply ask did you drive the a10?
You're going to get MT people who at this point are merely curious about actual experiences.

I'm about as die-hard MT as it gets, and if I get squeezed into having to get a car with AT I'd like to have some experience-based ideas outside what I know about myself for what to expect going in.

I know I don't want my car's throttle pedal having any command over transmission operation. Adaptive learning notwithstanding, I still want my car's transmission to be in the gear I want it to be in. Not the gear it thinks I'm supposed to want it to be in, because aside from dropping back to 1st (maybe 2nd) at a full stop it's not always going to guess right. Manual control with a +/- gate on the console is probably the only arrangement that I'd even consider (I've driven a car that has both paddles and a +/- gate, and there's no question about which I prefer).

There's still a few details like gradual deceleration and maintaining slow speeds in traffic or starting up from a full stop that won't ever be the same with an AT as it is with a MT.

That's just my own thoughts about me. My wife hasn't driven an AT-equipped car more than a few times in the last 45 years either, and she may have other thoughts.

I said the same thing and bought a Volt. 3 years later I'm driving over 100 miles daily in my GT. I lied to myself that I would be ok with good mpg. Don't be like me lol
