Slight rattle between 2-3000 RPMs

Has anyone had a rattle when lightly accelerating from 2000 to 3000 RPMs? It happens in 1st through 4th, 5th and 6th have too much road and exhaust noise for me to tell if it happens there too. It only happens when lightly accelerating, cruising is fine. I tried searching but did not find anything useful. I found a lot of stuff on older GT's, like 2010 and older, but not much on the coyote engine. I would take a video, but the exhaust is too loud to pick up the subtle rattle. My Ford tech buddy thinks it may be a phaser, but doesn't get many coyotes in so that's just his initial thought. Anyone have this rattle issue before? If so, what did the issue end up being?

Lots of ways to describe a rattle. Does it sound like a rattle coming from an internal part? Like the engine or trans, Or from the exterior or interior of the car?

My loud exhaust causes lots of rattles inside the car at certain RPMs. You should be able to easily tell if the rattle is inside vs. outside

It could be a rattling exhaust heat shield. Usually a higher pitched rattle from under the car.

It could be transmission related. I have a rattling/grinding noise on light acceleration around 1200rpm, after I had trans work done.

It's definitely outside the cabin, sounds like in the engine as it is more forward than under, but I can't make it happen when I am sitting in neutral, which leads me to think it could be something trans related. When I drive it a little more aggressively, you might even call it "normal driving", the sound is non existent which makes me think what I hear is something small and I shouldn't worry about it, but once you hear a sound in your car, you never unhear it until it is fixed so it has been bothering me for about a month now because I can make it happen whenever I want to, I just have to drive like a granny and boom, slight rattle between 2000 and 3000. It's not a grinding either, it is like a penny rattling in a cylinder, but only under light load, cruising and moderate to heavy load, no problems.

I will try to get under the car tomorrow and check all heat shield I can find, I went over the engine bay today shaking everything I could see, nothing seemed loose.

I get a sound from what seems to be the rear at certain RPMs in certain gears, however never consistently. It sounds like marbles rattling around inside a metal box. More like a metallic gurgling sound rather than rattle. Never at high RPM and usually more common at lower speeds.

The sound became much less pronounced after I installed the CF driveshaft and swapped out the tranny and rear fluids with BG product. Honestly the only reason I invested the money in the CF driveshaft on the MT-82 was to help combat this problem as I thought maybe it was due to slop in the 2 piece stock driveshaft.

However, the sound is still clearly audible. Perhaps it is something with the backlash. Maybe its the Torsen diff, which I've been told is noisy by nature.

I still haven't come up with a concrete answer as what may be causing this. On the other hand, I do hear a lot of people on these forums commenting on the 15-17 cars have a known vibration problem. I wonder if this si what they are referring to?

It's just being the first IRS, they have not figured out ways to isolate the diff backlash noise from the cabin.

But seriously...
You can reproduce it at will in "Granny Mode", which is presumably sedate, consistent RPM cruising(?) So I imagine you have found a "zone" where it drones on constantly, yes? If so, try moderate pressure in various directions** against the shifter (one direction at a time - for a few seconds each) and monitor the noise.

I can hear it best when the windows are down and I am driving near a wall, as the sound reflects off the wall. I have tried to recreate the noise while the car is not moving, but I feel that it is not as prominent. Did you ever solve your issue?

This is a two year old post so unlikely you are going to get an answer.

Sounds like you have the infamous 2K rattle. No there is nothing you can do about, it will not harm your engine, and no one really knows where it comes from.

So I have been gone a while and just thought I would update this, because it seems like the issue was the water pump. My water pump took a crap in 2019 and was replaced and I have not heard the sound again since, so I am guessing a bad bearing or something in the pump didn't like that rpm range.
