Anyone removed their magnaride shocks for something more traditional? I am not super happy with the DSC Tuner and really want to move toward a JRZ Triple Adjustable.

Thanks!

Yep, I'm running Cortex Racing coilovers, very happy with them

Great choice! Out of shear curiosity, how much did the system weigh? Did you remove the controller as well and all associated wiring?

You are a brave man! Not something I will even consider but awesome non the less.

Did you try loading different shock files? It's so easy to tune to your liking.

I am sure the there are limitations. Honestly if full out racing for time is the goal a full race suspension is the only way to go.

I would think if not banned by rules magnetic shocks would be the way to go.

Sounds like the old ABS discussion racers had.

The mag system adds weight which is counter intuitive to racing

The magnaride system is still there, working with Cortex we found some eliminators that will take the
place of the shocks so the system still thinks it's working, you can't just unplug the shocks it will go into service mode.
Overall switching to the Cortex/Jri set up saved 30 lbs overall.
Still fine tuning everything but I have no regrets going to coilovers,
first AutoX with the new set up I had a 1st and 2nd place for the weekend with only minor tuning, with wore RE-71r's
If you want more info contact Filip Trojanek [email protected] and tell him Paul sent you.

MagnEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERide adds a whole few lbs total per corner plus the controller. It's not a make or break that's for sure. Think of like suspension components. A slightly beefier support mod like a chromoly tubed cradle mount or whatever may be a lb or two more than the stamped steel mount but it's negligible. 30lbs removed is nothing to sneeze at though for just shocks and springs.

Saved 23 lbs off the rear and 7 lbs off the front

Doesn't really matter when you car hits limp mode?
hey now :paddle:

seriously, if I had any plans of racing or tracking the car, I would care about limp mode. If you don't plan on tracking it, limp mode likely isn't something you'll ever encounter. Plus, I live in Minnesota, not TX.

I suppose if you spent 20 minutes back roading at high speeds, keeping the revs up, it could hit limp mode. when/if that ever happens, I'll agree with you.

I figured there might be more to it than just removing the shocks.

I bought the DSC Tuner via Ridetech which I thoroughly regret. Not only do they not do any custom tuning of it on their own, mine came with no tune at all. Not a huge deal but still not the way I like to start out. The majority of reviews online just rave about the "difference". I have yet to find anyone substantiate it with better times. (although they are likely out there).

After getting a tune loaded into the controller I was seriously underwhelmed. On the highway the front end just floats. If I go over a speed bump the front end bobs up and down like it has blown shocks. I even put the stock tuner back in to make sure my shocks still worked. The stock tune is waaaay stiffer. When I asked DSC they stated at slow speeds the shocks are supposed to be soft. I just don't think multiple undulations of the front end going over a bump slowly is right though let alone the freeway action.

I bought the controller primarily for the low speed tuning for autocross. I have always heard that is where the magic was and once I saw the tuning software I was sold on trying it. I believe they told me by the end of December the magnaride coilovers will be released for the GT350. I can't wait to move toward a more National level competititve S550 spring setup on coilovers. The Tractive dampers are slated to run $7k. Yikes. I can get a set of JRZ coilovers for $5k fully setup w/springs, etc. Or even go with what I had last MCS for cheaper than $7k.

I am just hesitant to spend any more $$ on the new technology. Let someone else figure it out and then come back.
