Jacking up the 2017 Mustang wheel change

Might not be model specific but the same. For the rear I usually use the diff/pumpkin with a soft piece of wood sitting on the jacking plate.

After owning a few cars with a center jack point, I find this disappointing.

Small price to pay for IRS. I got a cross beam adapter for $30 + tax to lift the rear. I will raise the front with ramps as usual for oil changes.

Another vote for Steeda's Jacking Rails.

They look good, are lightweight, are strong, and you can jack the car up at any point along the rail.

It only took me 1 time trying to jack this car up to make me realize I wanted a safer and easier way. Jacking rails fit the bill.

According to this forum if you jack the car by the IRS the car will explode. Still waiting for mine to explode.

Dumb question but no so much explode but wouldn't that put pressure above the pumpkin? Or is that why it isn't recommended?

The problem is the pumpkin is bolted to the chassis via a few horizontal bolts. In operation those bolts just keep the diff from falling onto the ground. If you jack the car up by the diff, those bolts take on the weight of the back half of the car. So you have to ask yourself "Do I feel lucky?" [/Dirty Harry]

My 2 cents - I just change my winter to summer shoes and back 2X per year. I am not putting on racing tires every weekend and don't want the added weight of the jacking rails. The ZL-1 Magpad is pretty slick. It was featured on this forum a while back. it works great for the 8 times per year I actually need it (4 tires - 2x).

Yes, I have a 1/2" torque wrench, and a 3/8" torque wrench all for fine tuning the specs.

I didn't see a torque spec for the Steeda Jacking Rails so I just used the impact wrench then hand tightened them pretty tight.
