GT500 testing in Arizona

Motortrend made a suggestion that these could be testing features for cooling solutions to the overheating. But these are R's right? Doesn't seem like they would be testing an overheating solution on an R.

One of the new pictures match the car in the original posting but it does appear to be two separate mules. The front view of the car from driver's side and passenger's side is the same car. No camo and wing on the rear. The other three pictures have the camo and wing.

Look at the lower fangs and the lower front valance stakes... they're not similar to those on the 350.

Bigger openings suggest a couple of additions... one large intercooler plus track pack coolers?... or dual intercoolers for twin turbos?...

Honestly?... the Mustang prototype is probably faster and they are looking at the differences on track where the Mustang may have weak points.

It's not uncommon to have a faster car and track behind to learn more about the car... remember, it's not how fast you mow, but how well you mow fast.:cheers:

Ford not going TT is a step in the wrong direction. Look at all the cars going turbo charged. Hell even a base model 911 is now turbo charged. Not to mention the civic hatch back, also turbo'd. Supercharging is the old out dated method. I mean, when was the last time you saw a supercar that was supercharged? 2006 Ford GT?
Everything has turbos now, Mclarens, Ferrari, Mercedes AMG models. man, really disappointed, I was rooting for Ford to bring something new and blow away the competition.

Edit: just remembered the SLR, and the ZR1. So i guess 2013 was the last time we saw a blown "supercar".

That article, the motor trend writer either didn't know what he was talking about or just wanted to stir the pot about the tech pack heating issues. Anyone who's into cars know what's going on with that. Track packs and Rs have no cooling issues, and I bet they couldn't tell the difference between a 5.2 CPC or a FPC x pipe with it opened all the way up, besides that CPC will rev to 8,000 too.

That would be awesome but I've heard Ford ditched the TT setup because they are trying to keep the price reasonable. It's a SC engine right now. :frusty:

A former Ford engineer on here (BMacIL) said the issue with the TT is fit. Not that it doesn't fit, but they don't fit to Ford's clearance standards.

Hood bulges don't always mean SC... they also mean cooling exits or intake routing (cowl induction). Twin turbos in the s550 would require a significant packaging alteration to the current configuration of the car. That's different than the single turbochargers used on most cars, or the luxurious mid/rear engine packaging of exotics with twin turbos.

We shall see though. I'm now giving up totally on the TT effort yet.

It could be the best of both worlds and much lighter than a supercharger.

For a we know this thing could provide the same level of power as a TT but be much better over all. Sounds like it would fit right in with new tech which ford is always trying to install in new performance vehicle power plants... makes them more unique...more cool.

Yes there is an Ecoboost V8 coming for the GT500... there could also be a Supercharged V8 in the works as well, either for a Mach 1 or the base model GT500.

I'm beginning to think Ford went with Plan A: A Supercharged Coyote for the base GT500 (MT's pic) and the Twin/BiT Turbo GT500KR. The GT500 is the direct answer to the ZL1LE... the GT500KR is for the HP Wars. 660hp and 810hp...
