I know there's nothing new about this, but I feel like sharing my upgrade route and prices vs a GT and see your guys thoughts. Please keep the civil war at bay, this merely a path to enjoying my car.

I broke down a list of what I have and paid for to compare cost to performance.

Base Eco:24,995
Mbrp:480 (deal)
Levels IC: 540
Map Cai: 260
Atp Dp clone: 235
Cobb w/ Tune+:685
TS BOV: 235
RTR Tech 7's with Pirelli: 1,780
Vibrant Res: 90
(Did every single install, no labor costs)

29280 so far. The next two upgrades are VTT twin scroll and UPR CC for 2300 so that's 31580. Now that would get me much faster than a GT, much. Also in my area best deal on a used GT is 31k with 13,000 miles. Id have to go full bolt on tuned to compete (correct me if I'm mistaken please, I don't have every answer lol) now idk how much going full bolt plus a tune would add to that price but I'm sure id be in it a lot deeper.

I enjoy both, of course everyone wants that classic V8 big balls sound but I'm also being practical. I travel from WA to CA and I love the gas mileage this ca offers even with the Vargas upgrade. I don't mind the sound enough to wanna pay more sticker and gas. If one day I hit 11,s 1/4 mile I'll be super happy.

Anyways I'm curious on everyone's own opinion on the matter!

The EB is pretty cool. It's inexpensive ($7k less than a GT when comparing comparable trim levels) and takes well to mods. Has decent power in stock form and is faster than most cars on the street. I even think they sound good with the right exhaust.

But they're not for everyone. Some people like the way NA engines make power, some just have to have the growl of a V8. And that's fine. It's all personal preference. Like how I prefer to drive a manual over an automatic. There's no wrong choice, just preference.

I've had mine since November and I'm enjoying it, especially now that I'm finally getting around to modding it. I don't regret it at all. It's fun to drive. I'll be honest, though, I'll probably move back to V8's when the S650 Mustangs or next gen Challengers hit the dealerships.

I chose an EcoBoost for a few reasons. First, I am fascinated with turbo 4's. I also owned 2 SVO's. And an equivalent GT was $7k more. And I can get in plenty of trouble with an EcoBoost. I think your reasoning is spot on.

I'm a little confused. Is the VTT turbo already on? If so, have you had it dyno'd by chance? Just wondering what kind of power you are making right now on pump gas?

great explanation, I didnt even bother looking at S550 GT because of the price. i was in the market for GTI, SI, BRZ all of which within 1k of my my eco (Bought last year for 25k used with 12kmiles) and its a premium with a ton more features and 100hp on all my other options. being able to mod it and have it faster than a gt for not too much is just a plus.

No not yet, everything I have on is in my signature. I added the Vargas in my final price because it will eventually be on and I wanted an accurate price comparison. I've been following every thread on the Vargas and guy are easily 400hp and up to the wheels while still getting 30mpg highway. Also a stock GT makes roughly 380-390 wheel so having a similar finish price between full mod Eco and BASE stock GT, you whip V8 ass. Sorry for the confusion however

The thing to remember with the Vargas turbo is that you need to be on E30 to get into the 400's. Adam (Tune+) has said you're looking at around 380whp on 93 octane. Probably only 360whp, or around that, on 91 octane.

A full bolt-on E30 GT will still ruin your day, I suspect.

You know what that means? Built block, E85 and HUGE turbo!

Ha, yeah that's what I found out AFTER I bought the car - they make crazy power on E30 and E85. 93/91 octane? Not so much. There's plenty of E85 around me, but I'm not sure I want to mess with it. I think it's Perfweld who keeps saying it; 'These cars are all about fuel'.

I've been wondering if I can even break 300whp with 91 octane and my altitude, even with full bolt-on's.

I kept reading how people were getting upwards of 400whp with bolt ons and tune. Cool! Never occurred to me they were running E85, lol. That's probably because I'd been out of the scene since 2004. I had my '97 GT until 2008, but after the motor swap I didn't feel like going through the full bolt-on route again and stopped paying attention to the performance scene. If people were doing E30 back then, I didn't know about it.

I wonder if it's even worth upgrading the turbo with 91 octane, even with meth injection.

GT's aren't much better off up here. They're making around 355hp/330tq. Gotta love high altitude.

My personal opinion, I don't like the Coyote motor that much in stock form. I don't like the way it drives, feels, or sounds with nearly every exhaust being rasp city. I like the old mod motors boat-in-the-water sound way better.

I had a 1999 Cobra, 2003 Cobra, 2010 GT and 2011 GT when the 5.0 first came out. I vastly preferred the driving character of the 4.6 3V at 100hp less, the 5.0 always feels like it has to be completely wound out to get anywhere (especially compared to big pushrod V8's like my LS powered firebirds).

I enjoy the ecoboost, and even with the price of GT's dropping like a rock (I just saw a new 17 PP/6MT at the dealer on monday for 35k) I still paid 10,000 less for my premium than the base model GTs are now.

I have a feeling the ecoboost would have sold way more if Ford hadn't been so conservative and shipped it with the performance tune they have out now which I highly suspect was the original programming of the car and they dialed it back some. I'm not looking to beat 5.0 cars, hell the last time I even raced a car I owned was 4 years ago when I still lived in cali and had a drag strip near me. Now I set cruise at 72 and mosey my way to work.

I haven't driven a 5.0. I had the 4.6L SOHC and then swapped in a 4.6L DOHC Mach 1 crate motor. It was pretty ballsy at sea level, but was sulking wind when I moved to Colorado.
I test drove a Challenger R/T before I bought my EB and loved how it sounded and drove. Would have bought that over the EB if it weren't 5k more.

I drove the GT before the ecoboost. I was very stern on nothing but a V8. It was pretty good, smooth but didn't feel like it threw me back. Long story short they quoted my monthly payment and I quoted Danny McBride "Fuck Off" went and test drove the ecoboost only because my eclipse tranny went and I remember the turbo kick in for the first time and thought OMG. How have I not seen this?! Anyways it feel faster than a GT. May not have been obviously but my ass felt it. I would look down after a second and think "already 80 in a 35??" And now I have a stang.
