After every wash I always have to wipe the door sill and around the inside door edges and hinge area from water etc. Been that way since I bought it new. Normal for me.

Water-tight seal...

My first car was a 1965 Mustang. I was forced to drive on a flooded highway...to go around meant a detour of nearly 200 miles. Just had to keep slowly moving to prevent flooding the engine. No water at all in the foot wells after we got out of the 2 mile "crossing of the Red Sea".
There is no way my new Mustang could come through such a mid-door-high crossing without becoming a very expensive bath tub.

I'm sorry, I honestly don't mean this to be rude, but are you guys serious? Every car I have ever had (10+) has had this happen, its so normal I never even had the thought that it wouldn't be. As long as water is not intruding the car interior space there is nothing to worry about. The doors are not sealed from the outside body panels, nor is the trunk area, no car made that I am aware of is in fact. Part of my normal "detailing" process has always been to open the doors/trunk and dry and clean those areas as well.

Again, this is not meant to come off as rude, but this is incredibly normal.

Fair enough guys. It's my first car so it's only now that I really noticed this stuff. I never hand washed my mom's car, only drive thru and I also wasn't anal about keeping it clean so I never paid attention to the door sills or trunk after a wash. Good to know it's just a normal thing.

Just look at where the door seal is.
I took a look. The door seal goes all the way around the car from the front of the side window to the rear. It should prevent water from getting in.

This happened to my 06. It was even worse on my 12, water would actually somehow splash as far as the dash (nothing too bad, just droplets). Haven't picked up my 15 yet, but I guarantee it'll happen. Nothing to worry about, just gives you an excuse to clean it anyway.

He's talking about water getting inside the door sill, not inside the cabin.

There is no seal to prevent water from entering the door sill. Go look. :headbonk:

Just washed my car for the 2nd time and yes, the entire length of the door was wet.

My ole 79 likes to rust there too so thanks for the heads up.

There are two seals. There is an inner seal that is attached to the body and runs in a continuous loop. This one seals against the side windows when the door is closed and the inside area of the door sill and keeps water out of the cabin.

The second seal is attached to the door and keeps water out of the door sill area. My car gets no water anywhere in the door sill area or around the painted vertical sections. None. And I've driven in some heavy downpours lately. I also washed it recently using a pressure hose and foamer. There is simply nothing there. I agree that a few drops is nothing to worry about, but my experience is that the seals work as they should.

That is a splashguard, not a seal. You can go to the power wash and shoot water across your Sill Plate, it is NOT going to get past the actual door seal, & into you car.

Not a real issue.

I wonder how some guys are claiming no water gets in them? Mark me down as one of the majority, I just dry the area after drying the rest of the car.

I've never owned a car that didn't have wet door sills after a wash.

I am disturbed about my foggy headlights on a humid rainy day. I know that can't be normal but after a forum search it seems that it is.

I suppose if someone used a power washer car wash or even a strong stream from a garden hose and aimed it directly at the door gaps, it could breach the splash guard seal. I don't use either, so perhaps that's the reason I get no water on the door ledge or the latch/hinge areas. IIRC, I did get a few drops in my Escape.

So what does everyone consider the door sill area?

I washed my GT on Saturday and decided to pay attention due to this thread. I do get water on the "sill" area on the lower door BUT there is nothing on my lighted door sills that say Mustang, that door sill plate is dry so I believe this is perfectly normal as all other cars I have owned usually get water it that general area.
