So long story short, just raced a buddy of mine with the exact same mustang as mine, he is just lowered and I have a JLT CAI with tune from Bama. After a a two day ordeal, they finally sent me a tune after they sent me two bad tunes (I had 0 throttle response literally.) So I had a question. Me and my buddy raced, and we were dead even most of the time. Id get like half a car out and then itd be bumper to bumper. He got out in front and I couldn't catch him, vice versa.:frusty::shrug: If I had a dyno tune or tune from another company like Lund. Would I be gapping him? I feel like all they did was mess with the throttle response... Idk if it just me tho, or what. What do you guys think? I may get it dynoed at AED in Sac, since I live in Sac. If I had it tuned somewhere else on a dyno, I should be able to drag him by at least a car or no? I am new here so forgive me if my first post is an essay, lol.

A simple mail order tune and CAI isn't going to make you "gap" or "drag" him all of a sudden. Driver mod and is a bigger factor between two basically stock cars.

I definitely agree that it is a big factor. Hmm, I figured Id be somewhat faster or there would at least be a difference, even a small one. Thanks for the response bro. Appreciate it.:headbang:

Gearing and transmission?
Both autos and both stock gears (non pp). so 3.15 I believe... right? Forgive me not being sure on what the ratio is. All new to me..

i went from 12.7 to 11.9 and picked up 5mph from a FF tune only on a 3.15 auto car with exhaust. get a better tuner.

Once you get some more bolt ons you should consider a AED dyno tune since there close by.

This is a little misleading. Technically your results aren't from a 'tune only'. You made a pretty significant change when switching to E85 that allowed for such a drastic gain.

When I owned a S197 everyone recommended Bama, but for some reason on the S550 the Bama tunes are an afterthought. Did Bama drop the ball? It sucks because I bought tunes for life. Thankfully I got an X4 tuner right when it was released... so if I decide to tune it won't cost me a whole lot.

Hence why I CLEARLY stated that it was a FF tune... oh allow me to mention DA was 100 less and I took a big dump before the run so there was weight reduction too.

Everyone recommended Bama for the S197's? Maybe only the guys that didn't know any better. Bama has had a lot of trouble tuning for many years now. Just the fact they've gone through so many tuners tells you all you need to know.

Easy there chief. Some people might not know what 'FF tune only' means.

I'm not calling you wrong, I was just saying it was a little misleading.

Sheesh.

I never understood why so many people were obsessed with Bama on the S197s. Well, I suppose it's the same as with Lund on this platform: marketing.

There is also variances in engine power on cars as well. He may just have a strong car. I made the same hp as a couple tuned cars and more than a few stock cars at a dyno day we had last year. Each motor is different. That said, I've never dealt with Bama, but they butchered the tune on my uncle's 13 GT. He ended up taking it to a local tuner to get sorted out. I personally wouldn't touch a bama tune.
