Shit State Trooper pulled me over for 58 in a 55. Handed him drivers license, Concealed carry, and insurance. He had me roll up my window to check my tint. Then told me to watch my speed and let me go. First time to be pulled over in 11 years. Kinda ticked me off. He was obviously expecting someone else.

It hasn't happened to me yet but I heard some troopers are writing tickets for less than 5 over PSL. Especially on I10 out of El Paso.

very few radar guns are accurate enough between the most common legally-required calibration intervals to provide a repeatable accuracy within 5mph, thus why most departments give drivers a 5mph grace in most cases.

If you are written for less that 5mph over, you have to be a seriously unlucky person to get tagged with a radar gun that has been calibrated within 8 or so hours.

Now if you regularly get tagged with laser, I'd highly recommend investing in ALP.

I have 2 detectors ( one set for highway and one for city) and an ALP setup with 4 sensors on my cars. yes i drive fast once i get west of lake charles and I'm heading to houston. yes i drive fast once i'm west of shreveport and heading to dallas.

While the ALP set up might seem pricey, a similar setup saved me thousands of dollars when i did gold rush in my old car.

agreed. There is a "Uber for planes" type service in Tx, but it costs Oil tycoon type money. I end up having to bounce between Dallas, Houston and Austin pretty regularly. It is almost to the point that if this keeps up, I may just keep a fun car in Texas to drive while I'm there.

Dallas to austin in a rental is the worst, even if it is a "Nice" rental.

It also seems like every time i'm in houston, the car rental company thinks that an escalade EXT is a "nice upgrade" for someone who is only transporting himself. :headbonk:

ALPs are the best option, hands down. If anyone asks, shelby's dont have the "back up sensor/beeping thing", so it is logical to have added it.

in a bout of hilarity, this excuse actually got me out of a ticket outside of tulsa. I do think that the officer knew better based on his laser not getting any reading, but without a reading and a logical explanation, he let me go.

perhaps it was simply a matter of having a logical story and if an official review of body/dash cam footage were to happen, if spot checked, he'd be clear.

and more likely him not wanting to do paperwork at 2am.

He had an amazing poker face if that was the case.

Either the state troopers are bored, or they're fishing for other violations. Unless I'm on cruise control and watch my GPS speed, I can't guarantee that I can keep the speed limit. The speedo on the mustangs are just to imprecise and the parallax of the gauge doesn't help either.

I mostly just drive with the flow of traffic if law enforcement is present. That doesn't mean I do exactly the speed limit in the passing lane while sitting in people's blindspots. I'm not afraid to pass a cop on the highways who is doing the speed limit like 99% of the population is.

But perhaps, I live in an area where the law enforcement is actually reasonable and doesn't pull you over for ticky tack reasons.

Back in the early 2000's one of my clients would fly me up on their Citation Mustang, it was an old tiny light jet but it did pretty good time from Hobby to Redbird airport in Dallas. But those days are long gone..

I've had good luck following those big lifted bro trucks. They usually run in the 90s and I can follow them about a 1/8 mile back and they will clear the road for me. I caught a white BMW X5 on the way back from Austin last year that never dipped under 100 on 71. That was a nice fat rabbit.

He was fishing. I used to be a small town cop so I know exactly what he was doing. He had a smile on his face when he walked up he got me. He was at the bottom of a hill. There was no way he was not getting me. My only defense was that everything else was in order.

I live in Round Rock just north of Austin and there's a car show actually sponsored by the Round Rock police department. It's pretty nice when your police presence are car fans. Don't have to worry about stupid front license plate rules and things like that because they understand.

I'm just north of Austin in Leander. I commute into Austin everyday for work. I've been front license plate free for almost two years and haven't been pulled over by LE. :cheers:

With so many Porsches around here, and not being able to go a week without seeing a Maserati / Lambo / Ferrari / Aston , the occasional McLaren , Nobody looks twice at a boring S550 GT

I get more looks than alot of exotic cars. I think they're too common in parts of OC vs a procharged Mustang Lol.

I've never had a speeding ticket, no radar detector either. I had a Trooper, new kid, give me a warning Memorial Day this year. How a 20 year old made Trooper I don't know? But he was very interested in my Cyclone track build, and he complemented the car.

I've been front license plate free since 2009 with my Camaro SS. No warnings, nothing for the plate. The only time I ever got pulled over was in the FR-S since toyota forgot to put an inspection sticker on my car... lol.
