Hang on, isn't the new systems first year RFL £2k instead of £1k?

If so you save £360 per year, on the new RFL rate..

3x £360= £1080..

So it'll take 3 years before you see a saving over the existing system:crazy:

Screw that....life's to short:)
A point to add is that I would imagine that a Mustang registered in April would resell more easily that one registered in March. And I would guess that one registered around this time would also be the sweet spot as Ford will continue to increase the base price while ever the exchange rate remains crap.

I'm in the same boat here. Mines due at the dealership in the latter half of January. Not as long so wait but still a long time. And I was planning to keep mine longer than 3 years.

So at the moment it is the dealership's car. They don't want me to actually pay for it until March, which I thought was rather good of them. I've paid £1k deposit, which as Enoch points out has already been swallowed up by the extra first year tax that comes in April. Yes I know, this doesn't stand up to logic. And besides, I got all the extras anyway, so I'm not even being consistent, swinging from extravagant to parsimonious on a whim. I was planning on keeping this for a good few years, which is why I figured I could wait. My next Mustang will probably be a self-driving one!

Mind you, I probably wouldn't have posted this thread if I wasn't wavering and I can see which direction the audience is going...

Well look at it this way, in 2020 you can look back and be grateful you waited 3-4 months ! By which time I have no doubt tax laws will have changed any way. Just go and get it, find a nice Jan / Feb / March sunny dry day and boot it. Remember cold air increases HP so make that an excuse! If it helps mine arrives at the dealer this week.....I can post some pictures of what it's like to pick one up when it's at the dealers

Blimey, and I get grief for not driving my S197 much :D

Not sure I could leave her sat in the corner of a storage lot for 3+ months........I'd want her detailed and kept in the nice warm and dry showroom (with a rope around it and STRICT instructions that no-one sits in it/touches it!!

Good luck with your wait :)
so would i..my american cars are never left alone EVER. overnight i'de be a bundle of nerves.

Hahahahaha, and for Pong's benefit, this is what all the fuss is about:
https://www.gov.uk/newvehicletaxrates
It's the flat rate of £140 a year for the second and subsequent years, vs £500 or so now.

Go on Goosey, tip me over the edge and make me jealous.

There are so many possibilities to lose money on cars especially new ones, suppose by fluke the gearbox goes bang out of warranty, well thats 3-4 years of tax saving gone ,suppose you reverse into a bollard...goodbye £400 excess or a years tax.Suppose you trade it,you could take a bad deal ...easily 3-4 years tax saving lost,Hell knows I've done some bad deals.Suppose you do a £1500 upgrade and don't like it ...there is another 4 years tax saving gone.Suppose you get run down by a bus......then it will all have been for nothing.....Collect the car now:D

As so many others have said (there's a strong hint)... you're totally off your nut waiting 'til April... life's way too short.

More importantly... the brake discs, battery and tires will all suffer (especially the two former items) sitting there over the coldest part of the year... and the drain holes will get blocked by all the shit that falls off the trees/bushes behind and rots away in whatever crevices it makes its way into. You'll have every woodland creature that's looking to get away from the shitty weather making a home in your engine bay/suspension/chassis etc.

I went away for just short of three weeks recently and was panicking about what was happening in the lousy weather to my car which had arrived with the dealer the week before I went away but I wasn't able to pick up until my return (but which it turns out they thankfully kept undercover in their prep workshop).

The car I left on my driveway looked like it had been abandoned for years when I returned... so if you're happy to keep popping down to the dealership to gaze longingly (and lovingly) at it looking like a bunch of squatters will have have been living on it... your willpower and desire to save money is obviously greater than most... and anyway, if you wanted to save money you'd have been better off buying a 1.0 Ecoboost Fiesta!

Just go pick it up and live the dream... sermon over :D !

To be honest....if you're worried about £300 quid a year, (after the first 3 years) maybe you should reconsider the decision to buy a 20mpg car in the first place:D:lol:
