Newby to Eco Mustang

I just recently picked up a 2016 Eco premium. Coming from a 2010 V6 to a 2012 Roush and now a 2016 Ecoboost I love the new car! But i am banging my head against the wall as to the sound of the car. I know it wont have the V8 rumble of a V8 but it should be better than stock. Ive listened to virtually every video I can get my hands on using Bose headphones and really the Ford Racing mufflers sounded pretty good.

I also ran accross Thermal R&D and i have to say it sounds pretty good online. Anyone ever heard one in person?

I really like the car on the freeway nice and quiet with no drone. But I want to hear it when I put my foot in? What would you suggest?

I'm impartial to magnaflows since that is what I have... they sound good, if that is what you want.

You can find my setup in my signature. I saved a ton of money by purchasing the mufflers and having them installed instead of going with a kit...

I just picked up the ford performance tune and the turbo sound is winning me over. At first it was aggravating since I had the mufflers going and the turbo hissing.... but I'll say I love the turbo sound with the windows partially down in traffic. LOL

I'd personally go with the turbo sound vs. mufflers, but that is me...

And I don't think you can "hear" any muffler setup properly online. You have to hear it in person.

Welcome to the underdog platform. Personally I like the crackle and pops of going straight pipe, I like the sound and my neighbors don't like me anyway.

Exhaust is the hard part for this car. Being a Mustang, I think there's an innate expectation, or desire, that it'll sound like a V8, but it doesn't. It sounds like an import/tuner car with aftermarket exhaust and just a regular 4 cylinder car without.

I'm personally leaning towards replacing the resonator with a muffler, probably Magnaflow, and running straight pipes on back. I would love to hear an Ecoboost with resonator and muffler delete in person. In some Youtube videos it sounds good and in others it sounds awful.

I had the muffler delete for a couple of weeks... sounded great on the videos I made... in person it sounded like sht.

But that is my worthless opinion.

I personally like the sound of my ecoboost. ;) I will eventually get the exhaust upgraded to sound a little more menancing but I'm in no hurry.

Agreed, I want my car as quiet as possible, one it allows me to listen to my tunes in a more audiophile way and two it kind of freaks people out, they are expecting a loud car and when I blow by people, it's like what?...lol

My only thing I did with the exhaust was to do the y-pipe (resonator delete), you hear a slight bit more growl when you step on it hard but other than that the car is quiet.

I have the ford racing by borla Touring catback - a bit louder and a bit deeper note. Rather than go the CAI route I went green filter plus Airaid MIT, so I get more turbo noise without it being obnoxious. Pleased with the setup.

Working on 33K in my 2015 cabrio. Bone stock, but I am convinced the hiss and rumble are more pronounced now than when new, especially with the foot in it. I'm with those that like the more stealth mode. BTW I have the "2.3T" badges (where "5.0" would go) on my car, and those have gotten more comments than anything - That with stealth is a pretty good combo.

Yeah, I put the the "2.3" badges on my car and now wish I had gone with the "2.3T" instead. I know I can just swamp them out, not a big issue but don't want to spend another $50 on on them. I like mine,.. just think the 2.3T would make more of a statement.

I'm planning to put 2.3T badging on at some point. I like how it looks. Ford should have included that from the factory. I thought about doing SVO badges, but these aren't SVO cars so it would feel like upbadging to me.

The FR exhausts are made by Borla, so check them out for more options. I have the Borla S-type axelback and it sounds great. Its the middle ground between the touring and Atak setups. Loud when I step on it and tame when I dont. Not deep or anything, sounds like a good tuner car, which is all u can hope for in these cars.

Actually with a totally silent car most will assume it's a stock GT and not care one bit. I'd rather give the car some exhaust sound so they damn well know this ain't no v8.
