question for those with this type of flooring, how effective is it when doing work on your cars? I am always dripping some oil or diff fluid during changes, and on the old cars when doing work there is a never ending supply of rust, dirt and debris falling on the floors, in my current garage i just put down some oil absorbent and sweep everything up. How do you clean up with this type of flooring that is raised? I'm thinking for my purposes maybe an epoxy coated floor would be better

I do some work in my Block Tiled garage - I consider mine more a car storage facility. I have another 2 car garage with a concrete floor that I do dirty work in. The tiles will clean-up, but it isn't pretty - I put down cardboard to collect fluid and debris. You also have to use a buffer between your jack/stands and the floor. If you are doing serious work in the garage, I would probably recommend NOT using these types of tile.

More show than function.
If you spill liquids it'll get trapped under the tiles.
If you live in an area where there is snow and salt it makes a mess on and under the tiles.
Jack stands will damage the floor unless you put down a plate of steel between the jack stand and floor. Same goes for jack.
The plastic sound is annoying.
Slippery when wet.

These are just my experiences I seen from working in my friends garage. I like the paint or even real tile better. You could also get peel and stick tile if you want the color and designs.

Nice set up you have there! We just installed some race deck today for a client that owns a gt3 and a gt4 clubsport. The floor matches the wrap on his gt4. His shop is 24x58. Lots of big boy toys out there. Ain't it the life?

Assuming then that the Swisstrax type flooring is primarily just for aesthetics then? Looks phenomenal, but I can't seem to think of any functional or practical benefits of it? haha

Some nice tiles done in the same patterns as shown above with the Swisstrax would be phenomenal!

Yeah the epoxy floor would be better for what you use it for but it's perfect for me. I rarely work on my cars as they're all new and my wife never lets me out in the garage :frusty: But I currently have epoxy in my house garage and trust me it scratches also! That whole floor is nothing but scratches. They don't go through the epoxy to the concrete but you can see them under the florescent lighting. I am going to do the fabric barrier at my house but the the big one is so much area and I'm generally just in and out so I'm not going to bother there with it

Thats what i figured was the case but at the same time was thinking for all that cost it must offer something more than just aesthetics. To each his own but sounds like the floor epoxy is the right way to go for me.

Flooring is in! Took 2 of my worker bees a day but the got all 2400sq ft of it done. Definitely doing the felt under it for my house but wasn't worried about it here.

For my client the Race Deck was 60% of the cost of the epoxy. The tiles look good and are easy to install but the lighter colors are not going to wear well with heavy traffic or fluids.

Yeah there won't be any fluids aside from ac condensation drip on these floors. Just driving in and out.

i know there is some DIY ones that are pretty cheap but the professionally installed epoxy isn't cheap.

If anyone is close to me or wants to travel a little I have a kit for a standard 2 car garage I'll let go for the amazing price of FREE... It's the silver color and I believe it was a tad over $200 when I bought it not long ago. I was going to epoxy this whole garage but there was so many layers of cheap concrete paint chipping off there's no way I was opening that can of worms so modular flooring it was :cheers:

Thats pretty reasonable, i was getting quotes that were twice that. Agreed about the prep work, this is what scared me away from the DIY.

Yeah having to rent a big floor sander and get all that crap off turned me away! It was a good idea in theory but not a good idea to execute yourself unless it's what you do as a profession. For the money this flooring is amazing in my opinion and if you get the free flow version I'd imagine that would hide any imperfections pretty well as there isn't so much solid surface visible. If I did any wrenching I'd go with that version for sure. Hell it's strong enough to mount a 4 post lift on without it crushing so that should say something right there. If I get many more cars I'm going to need a couple of those :lol: Actually the warehouse is already wired for one and I could see where there use to be one mounted in there.
