Hi Tom. I agree with everything you said with the exception of hiring a lawyer. If you have a MAJOR offense, yes, get a lawyer. For minor offenses, lawyers can actually hurt you in my opinion. Many judges will not take well to bringing a lawyer in for a minor offense. It is your absolute right but the goal is not to show up the judge but to get the offense reduced or dismissed. Unless you have an open and shut case, I'd avoid a lawyer but that is just my opinion.
Hi Mike,

A long time ago, I got a withhold. I was lucky because I didn't know the system. I fumbled around not knowing what I was doing and luckily, it turned out ok. The circumstance around that stop was I was doing 75 in a 70. A state trooper pulled up along side of me and was clocking me with his speedometer. So I got pulled over and given a ticket for 80 in a 70, yes, BS. Cops don't lie, right?

Anyway, fast forward to my day in court...... I watched a lawyer represent about a dozen or so clients all in one standing and he methodically went down any loophole such as logs, training, etc and when everything checked out good, he asked for a withhold. Unless the driver had a crappy record, the withhold was granted. I can't speak for other states, but as long as your record is clean, you can easily get a withhold and just pay the fine with no points.

So back to the lawyer..... The judge and lawyer were just two people working together conducting business. First the lawyer would try to get a dismissal for a technicality, and then wound up getting a withhold for his client as long as the officer didn't object. Someone in this thread mentioned that this is just a fundraiser. I agree. Unless you piss the cop off, or have a bad driving record, or do something really bad, the judge is fine with giving a withhold of adjudication.

I guess what I am trying to say is that its just business and my observations that day were that if I were to do it again, I would hire a lawyer who knew what he was doing. They don't cost a lot for a simple ticket and a lot have a guarantee or your money back.

This is a stupid thread. Asking about who is getting tickets? I don't get why anyone would care why or how I get a ticket?? Well I drove to fast or I acted like an idiot, LOL.

Agreed that those are other possibilities of ways to get caught but from my personal experience rare situations that do not happen all that often probably depending on the area you live in. Majority of the time it is with radar or laser and even with laser you are screwed because once the detector picks up laser its too late they have your speed. With laser the only way is really a laser jammer which are illegal in most states I believe.

As far as the question above a couple posts I am running an Escort Redline radar detector segmented to make it a Redline XR. This really only means certain K band frequencies bands are turned off to reduce false alerts.
This is the main reason I haven't even bothered with a radar detector so far. Also, in my area LE uses every type of method for determining speed. So there is no all encompassing solution where I live.

Does the Escort redline work well for you? I might have to give it a try.

Laser jamming is not illegal in most states, only like 8 have laws against them, everywhere else it is just frowned upon. Most laser jammers are designed to be "Parking Sensors" too with the push of a button which eliminates jamming completely so the officer has no idea it is a jammer.

Be very careful.

The Mustang is an attractive car for cops to pull over. I was pretty arrogant about my speeding in my Audi Wagon until I got an 01 Corvette and immediately caught a ticket for 75 in a 70. I'd never been pulled over for such a small ticket until I realized it was all about wanting to see a Vette on the side of the road. After that encounter I got a quality radar detector and make sure I've got a rabbit running ahead of me.
A ticket for 5 miles over is ridiculous..If you're going 5 miles over on any highway in the US, you're probably gonna be one of the slowest out there.
I hope you appealed it.

I've always said that this car is an exercise in self control. Ive been pulled a few times, but it was out of interest in the car. I was never asked for DL or insurance.

Many responsibile adults, including myself, drive over the PSL every single day. We can agree on manning up and taking your medicine though. I haven't had a moving violation in about 15 years.
Over the last 15 years I have had...a few :ninja:. Never more than 1 point showing on my record however, which is key to keeping your insurance low. I have found out the "yeah that was really dumb" defense results in a warning most of the time.

While I haven't had a moving violation in about 15 years, I've had many conversations after having been pulled over and have been much luckier than most for some reason.

If I'm on a busy road such as an interstate I'll use Waze to keep me advised of police. It works incredibly well. They pretty much have no chance of sneaking up on you.

I recieved my first speeding ticket the first day I drove my car I was driving back from Illinois to ny and at aproximatley 400 miles in I was clocked at 89 in a 70 .
Was my first ever moving violation in my 30 yrs being licensed.I was on interstate 80.Road was smooth and no other vehicles at the time.the only good news is ny dmv doesn't list any moving violations from any other states on your record unless it's a felony (dwi )

Waze all day - I reached well over 130mph in my 911 with that app with confidance for 200+ miles - some sprints up to 145mph. No texting, no distractions, just excellent driving and lane discipline on a mostly clear highway.

The first few months with the GT350 I was pulled over multiple times - the car has such presence impossible to miss. Most just had questions about the car though and how it does on the track. One cop asked to pop the hood.

America has great LEO's, I support them, I show respect to them and they show respect to me.
