Way too distracting.
Safe drivers look ahead all the time.
Would rather have the R&D money spent on mechanical and performance upgrades.

I liked it in my 2011 SS Camaro, do I miss it not really.
I had an 11SS also. It's a nice feature. Makes the car feel a little more high end but like you said. I liked it' But It's not a feature I cant live without.

I loved the HUD on my old C6Z. I never used the instrument cluster during spirited driving. The shift lights on the 350 are OK, but a true HUD would be better

Corvette owner here.... I find it the most worthless thing on the planet.... it's the gimmicks of gimmicks... Every time I look at it I could see the analog speedo in the corner of my eye...

Navdy on the other hand if they could keep all the features they're promoting is a different story... but a basic HUD they have in GM vehicles are IMHO just flatout worthless.

Your second picture shows exactly why I DON'T want to have a HU display right there in front of me all the time. The road ahead is what I need to be focusing on, without always having to look through anything that's going to keep insisting I pay attention to it instead.

Your pictures indicate that the apparent HUD distance is not the same as the distance to the important stuff - I know my eyes can't focus down the road (essentially at infinity) and at dashtop distance (a couple of feet away) at the same time, and suspect that I'm not alone.

Now if it could be moved over close to the A-pillar, maybe I could live with it (depending on how not-big and not-bright or otherwise attention-grabbing the display area is). But I wouldn't ever have it displaying much

You can move it to wherever you like as long as it's facing you, you will still be able to see it.

Had HUD in my BMW. Overated. If it was free then fine but I would never pay for it. Total gimmick IMHO. Oh yeah... One more thing about HUD. If you use polarized sunglasses you wont be able to see it. At least with the BMW one.

That's odd, I couldn't disagree more. Not sure how it's overrated or a gimmick, it does what it's supposed to do. It places pertinent vehicle information (selected by you) right in your line of site. What's gimmicky or overrated about not having to look down or away from the road any more than is absolutely necessary? My roommate had one in his 2014 2SS, I've test driven Corvettes with them, and my cousins have them in their BMW's. Both of them worked fine with/without polarized sunglasses in my limited time behind their respective wheels.

Would I pay thousands for a HUD? No, but if it was reasonably priced and/or put in a tech package I would absolutely spend the extra Benjamin's on one.

When you are looking at HUD you still have to take your eyes away from the road because your eyes are focusing on the HUD data.

Have you actually had a car with HUD? I have. I'm telling you with the BMW HUD it was invisible using polarized sunglasses. I personally wouldn't pay anything extra for HUD. It's not something I miss and wish it was in my Mustang.

I installed a HUD display. The display is shown adjacent to the A pillar. Only the mph is readable in daylight while wearing polaroid sunglasses. I didn't install the included transflective Mylar sheet on the windshield...I didn't like the distracting edges. The HUD is acceptable but I wouldn't have paid a lot of money for it.

I’m not sure where your HUD’s display was shown, but in the vehicles with HUD’s that I’ve driven it was dead ahead and slightly lower than my line of site. The time it takes for your eyes to focus on the HUD display, your brain to process "70mph", and your eyes to refocus on the road ahead is nearly instantaneous. Unless you're spending time to stare and admire it. But even in those instances when focusing on the HUD you’re peripheral vision was still watching the road ahead. That is not at all the case when you have to look down at the navigation screen.

With HUD, you're always watching the road ahead.

Without the HUD, you're not...

I haven’t owned a vehicle with a HUD (yet), but as I said, I’ve driven several of them many times here in Florida. A 2014 Camaro 2SS, a C6 Corvette, and two 5 series BMW's all with HUD's.

To each his own though. I think HUD's should be available on far more vehicles than it currently is. My buddy with the 2014 2SS bought a 2016 Malibu a month ago and he still talks about how he wishes it had a HUD. It's one thing his car had that I wish mine had.
