Yea!!! Down with them young whippersnappers and their silly technology and useful things! Bah humbug. For that matter, who needs a speedometer anyway when I can tell how fast I'm going by the way my car sounds? It's just useless technological clutter.
I used to be a computer programmer. Technology does not scare me. What bothers me is the reliance on useless features that make vehicles more expensive. If you really believe that a HUD makes you safer, than all the power to you. What I see is a poor driver.
What I see is a curmudgeon with reading comprehension skills. ;) Between the two of us, no one said anything about safety. I was just illustrating that your argument for not wanting a HUD could be applied to any tech in a car. It's a weak argument.
But adding nearly useless features is not a weak argument?. These cars will start to get out of control price wise if we keep wanting features like this. I am not saying we need to go back to the dark ages with crank windows and all that, but do we need seat warmers, HUD's, NAV systems, Subwoofers, BLIS, and all these features?. I feel like it is all these things that keeps from being able to afford one of these machines.
I'm on the same page with you, more or less. There are a number of features I don't need or care for that some modern cars have, among them NAV, heated/cooled seats, heated/cooled steering wheels, BLIS, etc... which is why I bought a Base.
Load all those features (including pony lights and mood lighting) into a premium trim and charge people a lot for it! The rest of us can buy an engine with a metal cage around it.
That's why there is a base model.

However I don't begrudge the people who want additional features, after all I'm one of the many who was shocked the Mustang didn't come with a digital speedometer (and wish they'd add one.) I don't mind progress, but I do mind when features I don't want are forced on me. I think a HUD would be cool but more of a novelty.
Agree with most of what you said except for the heated seats/steering wheels. Here in Canada that is almost a must. Before my 2016 GT I had a 2013 corvette with the heads up display and I have to say I really hate digital speed displays. For some reason seeing the exact speed in my eyesight at all times made me constantly drive at the exact speed limit. I was hyper aware of it. I love the GTs analog speedometer because you know your speed incrementally when you glance down and instead of being exact its always changing.
