As someone from the inside, I can tell you that they can do what they refer to as a PACO. They then take the PACO to the service manager who logs in to your case with Ford (even if you started it after the part was ordered), updates the case with current parts expectations, and then Ford does their magic to make it quicker or whatever. But the PACO can not be logged with Ford warranty/customer service without a case, and you can't PACO a part (in this case the motor) without ordering it first and waiting a day.

So in your case Kyle, they ordered the part, you opened the case, they PACO'd it, and Ford went whoops whoa no when they saw 10/28. CS Managers will call their facility's and make magic happen. Can't tell you how many times I had stuff like that happen. So without your case, they wouldn't have been able to do much unless they opened a case on your behalf which i've never seen go well. Ford ignored most anything I requested but if you get on the phone they will bend over and take it up the rear for you if they want too.
I appreciate the info. Idk what exactly happened, just going by what the Ford Service rep told me (my case worker). I wish I could just get Ford to buy back the car, I feel instead I'm going to have to just live in this sort of Stockholm syndrome state where I get the car back and drive it for a bit, hoping it doesn't break, until I can "afford" to sell it. "Afford" meaning the point in time is reached where I can stomach the true cost of the car once I line up a buyer and realize I'm loosing X thousands over Y months of "owning" the car, and only truly enjoying a subset of that amount of time.

This is NOT at all how I imagined I would feel about owning the car at month 4 - I thought I'd be out putting lots of miles on it on weekends with the beautiful weather lately!

You know I feel for you, and quite honestly agree with almost everything you're saying. Like you I'd feel my car was injured and even with the new motor I would always have a sinking feeling that my car is not complete.

That said, I just feel that if Ford fixes it for you...and we're talking engine replacement in what looks to be 2-3 weeks...I personally don't see this as a long timeframe. I would call it pretty efficient. Business takes time. Would I be worried about the guys working on my car, yes. But to say like you have fuck Ford, fuck all American cars; I just think it's a little harsh. If it makes you uneasy, sell it (like you plan too). And I understand your frustrated with Ford right now, but they made a great car and there are lots of happy owners out there...especially on this forum, who are quite happy. No matter what brand you buy, bad shit can happen from time to time you just hope it doesn't happen to you.

I didn't want to reply and say this, I don't want to start a forum-fight, but the thread started with you just so eager to get your car back and looking forward to driving it again to complete disgust with everything and every American car company. Just kinda disappointing. It sounds like even if Ford said, here, take this new GT350, you'd say no.

I'm not a Ford fanboy either, sold my BMW to buy this car, I have a Land Rover, this will be my 2nd Ford, and my first was a so so sedan (the almighty Ford Contour) ...no problems outside of maintenance (it lasted 17 years).

It's always sad to see someone upset like yourself, who knows, maybe once you get it back you'll change your mind, but it sure doesn't sound like it.

As others have said, best of luck and please tell us what happens in the end.

Exactly man, just get it back, drive it for 2-3 years. Hope it doesn't break, which hopefully it doesn't. Sell it. That way the you at least enjoyed the depreciation. Shit, they have to keep replacing the motor if it breaks again. Maybe Ford will stock up if there's more and more issues.

I get your point Rob, thanks for sharing. I hope you don't have to go through this. I've used this thread to vent, probably more than I should've. Not sure what else to do - much more important things in my life than this car have been going terribly the past few months.

And you're right, if the dealer gets the engine by early next week, and does the swap and everything's great, they could have my car "fixed" within 3 weeks of me taking it in. Which will surprise nobody more than me! Sadly I don't be back in town to collect it for awhile afterwards, after a thorough inspection.

Btw, how's your Range Rover been? I've heard terrible stories of their reliability, and I give a coworker a lot of shit about his. Now he gets to laugh at me for what happened with my loud, obnoxious car :(.

Glad I could help man. My vote goes to giving the car another chance. The fortunate side if it breaks again, it's still on their dime and helps your case. The hopeful side is you never any more issues and it puts a smile on your face for a very long time.

Good viewpoint. If it does break again, I sure as hell hope it happens under similar controllable/safe circumstances and doesn't cause a crash!

Ha, ya. I was a little hesitant buying the Range cause of all the horrible stories you read. But I can honestly say I haven't had an issue. Little qwips, like suspension errors (which clear as soon as the car is cycled...something wonky with the ride height sensors...easy fix for a do-it yourselfer, $120 or something, but I just can't be bothered cause it doesn't occur very often).

I got a super clean, used one a few years ago, and I've loved it. Westminster is top of the line for Range Rovers, so crazy expensive new and IMO not worth the cost new.

I guess the determining factor (which I'm sure you're familiar with at this point) is ...if it broke or was stolen would I buy it again, yes. The ride, the feeling of the tank like weight rolling down the road, but the uber light steering and nice interior ...all these combined just make it worthwhile.

People go from Range Rover to BMW, to Porsche Cayenne to Suburban and a lot go back to Range Rovers simply because they miss them.

One thing to note. I do regular maintenance myself, but complex shit (like brakes, I can't be bothered). My mechanic said, these cars are the best built cars, the wheel bearings, the suspension, chassis, all solid, however, unlike Mercedes and BMW, they don't take abuse/neglect well, you neglect a Range Rover, it's gonna be dollars. Take care of it, you'll love it.

Chances of it breaking again are near zero. All cars have issues, look into the burning Ferraris, the issues with several years of 911 engine's and these cars all cost WAY more than your GT350. You have a GREAT car, go drive the damn thing and have fun. :headbonk::headbonk::headbonk:

While I agree with you, there is apparently a 2016 GT350 owner who has had 2 engines replaced! The first engine failed, and the dealer didn't flush the engine oil cooler when installing the new engine (#2), so that engine failed due to obvious reasons.

Apparently even the 3rd engine failed, and at that point he was upgraded to a GT350R.

Talked to a guy with a brand new '17R at a track day last week who had a '16 that went thru 3 engines before they all cried uncle. He ended up with the '17R out of the deal.

So far so good with mine though...

Story was engine #1 had two cylinders hurt. I don't remember which two. Engine #2 swapped in and subsequently had issues. They then found debris in oil cooling system that they supposed was left over from engine #1 that got engine #2.

So engine #3 was ordered to replace. He tapped out of the car at that time. Clearly, I don't know all the details.

Just pointing out that there are engines being replaced outside of what we know here and there indeed may be pressure on the supply chain...

I went to the dealer the other day to visit it though! Does that count?
I have been every two days since its been in the shop. Even had them pick parts of the floor and put them on a rack.

I'm a bit bummed I won't be in town (potentially) during the engine arrival and swap. I wanted to have a look at everything and take pictures, mainly to ease the next owner's mind that my car did indeed have a new assembled-from-factory engine installed by an authorized dealer, but also because I'm curious to get a closer look at the engine out of the car. Oh well!

This guy got a great deal lol
A lot of hassle to get there though. I'd prefer working more hours at work (assuming paid overtime) to make up the price difference between a GT350 and an R on top of dealing with how hard it is to get an R in the first place!

Kairojya, I feel bad for your situation. It is really concerning that so many people are having engine troubles. I think when you get the car back you should drive it like you stole it and keep the RPM's above 7,000 as much as possible once it's broken in, why not? It's still under warranty, right? This car should be indestructible for the price and how it has been advertised. Unfortunately I probably will not keep this car beyond its warranty period as it is too risky... My personal opinion is this car will be worth nothing in the future once it's out of warranty, wish it wasn't that way, I love it so far.
