Hey all,

So if i can launch my car should run well into the 9s all day long. It's not a drag car though. I mainly drive on the street on nice days, and occasionally take it to the track. That said i will likely need a roll cage and license. License no big deal, but for cage, id like something where i don't lose my back seat as i occasionally take the kids out, and i want to keep it looking nice as my car is a vert.

Im just in the research phase now, but can anyone give me some tips tricks pointers ideas? Is there a well known roll cage faq?

A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.49. Vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., must have the stock firewall and floorboard, other than for installation of wheel tubs. The rollbar must be constructed of minimum 1 ¾ inch o.d. x .118 inch wall mild steel tubing, or 1 ¾ x .083 chrome moly tubing.

Be extremely careful putting kids in the back seat. It's like having a baseball bat right next to their heads. Make sure you get everything padded but its still not very safe.

That's part of my consideration. Wondering if i can get one custom made with pins so the pins will easily pop out and remove rear bars.

Or maybe I'll skip roll cage, keep this a total street car in a few years buy another swap this motor for that one and make that one a straight drag car keep this one as just fun vert

I think Watson racing has a certified Bolt in 6 point with removable door bars and belt cross bar .

If you modify your car in any way (tune, air intake, etc) the 9.99 exemption goes out the window and it goes back to 11.49. I found this out after getting kicked off the track for running 11.19. If you run faster than 135, and slower than 10.00, you still need a cage. As far as your convertible, unless you have a track that doesnt follow the rules, you will need a cage. There is no way to pin it, or make it sneaky, it has to be certified. I may put a bar in mine, but no way i will put a cage. Of course it all depends on your track and how they follow rules.

we can run 9.99 without a roll bar or cage . convertible and t-top cars do not have the same exemption
I have had this argument with my track manager. He says it has to be stock down to the tires so I need a bar. That is his interpretation of the rule.

I say why is a stock car safe enough but not a modified car.

Thats not his interpretation, that is how the rule is written. You can only modify the car by switching to a dot legal drag tire, thats it.

He says not even a drag radial. I have a 6 point anyway but i think its dumb a stock car can go 135 but a supercharged car cant.

How much lighter?

I'm debating waiting a few years pay off this mustang, let the price come way down maybe get a shell swap everything between the two and make the other all out race car.

Weighing different options right now
