I ordered a 2017 GT PP which I received recently:

I very much like the car, but I am a highly tactile individual and require certain very specific touch points to feel a certain way, and the factory steering wheel leaves a lot to be desired in this area. The leather is straight up garbage, and the rim is too thin. I also was coming from a MK6 GTI, so the contrast couldn't be worse. The mk6 has possibly the best steering wheel ever created in my opinion, so the difference was glaring to say the least.

So the GT350 wheel was appealing, since I liked the flat bottom design but there was no way in hell I was dealing with alcantara again after having it in my E46 ZHP and hating it, so I set about searching the internet and found a few people who will wrap wheels, and started digging in. After looking at countless pics, I settled on Donald Le of dallassteeringwheel.com. I contacted Donald and described what I wanted, essentially to recreate the half perforated/half smooth split of the mk6 with the matching silver stitching and thickness of an E85 Z4M BMW. I ordered a wheel and had it drop shipped to Donald who immediately set about doing exactly what I'd asked for. Less than a week later I had the wheel, which quite honestly exceeded my lofty expectations in terms of quality and material, the thicker rim feels absolutely amazing and every time I get in my car I get to use the exact wheel I want. A bit extravagant, possibly ocsessive, but I can't really use the car without touching it so I fixed the thing I hated most.

That looks awesome, pretty much what I would have done given a second chance. I too came over from owning GTI's and the MK6 wheel was perfect from the factory. I hated the feel of the GT350 wheel and sent off my take off unit to Carbon Dynamics to get it reworked. Happy with the results but I feel the carbon fiber is a bit too much for a daily and would have been also very happy with an leather thicker GT350 wheel.

Exactly what I would want out of that steering wheel....I haven't bought one because of that horrible suede - it just does not age well.

Love it! I'm not a fan of Alcantara and would do this to the wheel myself. How much did it cost including the wheel?

I just installed the GT350 wheel in my 16GTPP and was actually hoping for something thicker. I am a SN95 guy so the big swap there was GT to Cobra wheel. The cobra wheel was about perfect in thickness. How much did it cost to have your GT350 wheel wrapped?

Looks great. Is there a option for red stitching?

It doesn't wear well. I had it in my BMW and it matted down and pilled up.

$375 to wrap it and $50 for the thicker pad

TL/DR: I have a lot of opinions, check out my leather GT350 steering wheel.
I feel badly for you

Yep pretty much any color you'd like. You can choose different colors of leather too if you'd like.

Sorry for bumping an older thread, but that looks awesome.

And I completely understand the feel coming from a MK5 GTI myself (MK6 had better steering wheel) :D
Hell, base Jetta has a better steering wheel than our Mustangs
