1/4 and 0-60 times

Been reading a lot about 1/4 times, 0-60, and mods to improve both. What struck me is that it seems the times should be better even on a stock car. 430 hp in a 3,800 lb car should be faster imho. Are the relatively slow times due to poor traction at launch or is the hp:weight ratio the bigger factor?

Seems to me this should be a 4.0 sec 0-60 car with the usual intake, header, exhaust, and tune bolt-ons assuming traction is reasonable. Looking forward to your opinions.

I think a 4-second dash to 60 would be expected with a full exhaust, an intake and a tune. Are you seeing evidence of the contrary?

Not sure what your looking for. Everything you mentioned is driver dependent. Good drivers will get good times. Bad driver will get poor times. The problem is most people don't practice enough to become a good driver in their car. Look at the fast list in the drag section for how quick the cars become with mods.

Some many things to factor in. Road surface, tires, weather, driver and on and on.

I've actually been drag racing all lot lately. My car is 100% stock. Gt auto with 3.15 gears and those dreaded pirelli all season 235 tires.

Totally stock I have 13 seconds flat in the quarter mile. I think that's rather impressive to be honest. I'm sure if I just increased my rear tires to 285s my time would be substantially better. Then add bolt ons.

With the right bolt on, exhaust and tires you could be in the 11s easy and honestly, 11s are fairly impressive

Also one other thing I'd like to add is how many variables go into drag racing. Last week when I got to the drag strip at 330 it was almost 90 outside and I hadn't been driving long enough to get the tires warmed and sticky. My first run was like 14.04. My last run at around 9pm when it was closet to 70 outside and no wind was a 13 flat.

Look up density altitude. It'll explain how different weather conditions effect your car better than I can. But it had more to do with the power that you were making instead of tire conditions. AS far as that one second difference in time goes.

There a s550 gt that frequents the same strip I do. He is supercharged and tons of other mods. Almost 900hp. Pretty sure he runs 9s and 10s

Considering foxbodies ran high 13's ans ls1 camaros low 13's, I don't consider 13 flat impressive for the s550 (no pun intended). These cars lay down the MPH for a good mid 12 second run. Getting there is as much driver dependent as it is track. The s550's don't really like to give a good 60', which is why it's so difficult to get into the mid 12's. Get that 60' to 1.8's and you should be rewarded with 12's.

Our suspension seems to limit us a bit too. If you are running a 13 flat in the summer, some good air should be easy 12's.

There's too many factors involved when testing 1/4 mile and 0-60 times. As mentioned before, head over to the drag section and look at the fast lists. I'd pay more attention to trap speeds than just 1/4 times.

Stock I went 12.87 with the stock tires. So far down to 11.63 @ 129.97 on the stock 235's, stock suspension and a stick. They are not that bad...
